Stella Models

I am looking to buy a 2500 Stella ATM and being a Daiwa man noramally I am a bit confused by the model line up. I have seen 2500FD, 2500FE, 2500S and so on there are quite a few models available and just wanted to know what the difference was between them? Is it shallow spool models or something? Which model is the pick of the bunch do you guys think? I was thinking of matching it with a 7'0 Nitro Vapour I have, see how it feels, maybe a custom stick like a Duffrod if the Vapour's not ideal. The FA to FE models are worldwide models (except Japan).
A to E marks the generation of the model, A being the earliest, and each generation gets the next letter (some letters are skipped).

In Japan, there's no differentiation between the generations in the model number, apart from calling it a '10 Stella, or New Stella, etc. In Japan, they have slightly different styling (gold/black handle for example) for their high/low gear models, and they offer compact and shallow spool models.

Do shimano make a low geared 2000 Stella?

S refers to any of the JDM Stellas with a shallow spool... from any generation. As to why the FE is more expensive, cost of materials and manufacturing I guess. And it's the 'latest and the greatest'.

2000 size Shimanos are typically not offered to the world except in Japan.

You can get a C2000S (compact, 1000 size body, 2000 size/capacity shallow spool, 5.0:1 gear ratio)

/or A 2000 (true 2000 size body and (deep) spool, 5.2:1 gear ratio)

The FE is the current model. If you want the older or superseeded model, the FD is what you're after.

Its like going from a Commodore VT to a VX, not like going from an Executive, to a Calais.

C stands for Compact. So a C2000, has a 1000 size body, with a 2000 size rotor and spool.

S Stands for Shallow Spool version.

PGS Stands for Power Gear, so a lower gear ratio.

HGS Stands for High Gear.

FYI:

I've had my 2500 Stella FE's for a week now and i'm currently filling out the warranty details to send them BOTH back to shimano, both have started sounding rough and noisy.

Should of just stuck with exists

Little ticked off it's both of them tho, 1 I can deal with 2 is ridiculous!

I have picked up 2 different FE's and I didn't like them, they didn't feel as smooth as they should have. I believe this is because of the high gear ratio, which is why I went with the lower gear ratio JDM version, which is smoother than anything out there. Anyway, I reckon you should run them in a bit more, they should get smoother.

One isn't so bad... i'm not to fussed about it but i'd like to have it looked at. The other DEFINITELY has a grindy feel about it, sending them both back at the same time means when I hand them back to Shimano in 6 months time for a service I can do them both at the same time.

That's the first I have heard about any Stella FE going wrong, to be honest its the first negative opinion I have ever read.

Put a couple of drops of oil in it first you might be surprised at the improvement.

My FE initially wasn't as smooth as my FD at first but after some oil and some use It was smoother than the FD.

Another thing that gets a lot of people is confusing reel noise with roughness in a quiet room. Put in some headphones and see if you can actually FEEL any roughness.

I did mate, on the better one it smoothed it out a little i've decided not to send that into shimano before I run it in a little more. Definitely didn't do ANYTHING to the second, these things happen, I've pulled apart Sol's and Stradics but not even going to attempt it on the Stella, rather have Shimano look at it.
