Im pritty sure the powerdrive's for fresh kido and riptide st for the salt. The powerdrive when i looked came in 55 lb and 45lb thrust. Where the St came in 55 and 70 ..

Both can take i-pilot from memory too.

get the ST with i-pilot bud ..

There are two saltwater models - The Riptide ST (Terrova) and Riptide SP.

The SP is the less expensive servo-driven model and I believe it now comes with i-pilot factory-fitted. The only thing with this model is you can not add a foot pedal to it. I know that when the i-pilot first came out that Minn Kota said that if you upgrade the SP with i-pilot the foot pedal will not work. The Riptide SP is basically the same as the Powerdrive but designed for saltwater.

The ST Terrova is the top-of-the-line bow mount servo-driven model and can be used with both the i-pilot remote and the optional foot pedal at the same time.

I've got the ST Terrova and started off just using just the i-pilot remote. After a few months I decided to get the foot pedal and I'm glad I bought it. It makes the electric motor more complete. I use the remote for when I set a course or set spot-lock and use the foot pedal when moving the boat around moored boats and oyster racks.

Cheers,
Tim

It's reliable, it's the most expensive one out there cause it's the best - it's that easy. Don't muck around with watersnakes and motorguides.

I've had mine for just over a year and hasn't missed a beat. However, since I'm from Canberra, it wouldn't get the same amount of use when compared others that live near the coast.

The foot pedal is a corded pedal and is very responsive. I had a Motorguide wireless bow mount before this and the wireless foot pedal was no where near as responsive and I had issues with it as well.

The remote is excellent but I do find I have to look at it when wanting to press a button. It would be nice to grab the remote and know which button you are pressing without looking at it. Minn Kota have just release a new remote, which I'm hoping will help out with this.

Some one may have already learnt their watersnake lesson. SO i doubt he'd go there again.

ok, sounds like the motor Im buying. I've always been on a motorguide and I have been pretty happy with the results, what else will I need when I buy this motor? Will there be heaps of specialised different things like release brackets, fuses, connection switches ect which are only minn kota made, or can I use standard fuses ect?

Thanks
Drew

Make sure you fit a 50amp circuit breaker, preferably a manual resettable one. You could use a 50amp fuse block and fuse but if the fuse blows you obviously need to replace the fuse each time. All you need to do with a circuit breaker is flick the switch back over. It's also good for disconnecting the circuit when charging the leccy deep-cycle battery.

If you want to remove the motor off the boat then a quick release bracket will help plus a pair of 50amp anderson plugs to disconnect the power leads. You could buy the Minn Kota receptacle and plug but the anderson plugs are cheaper and just as easier to disconnect.

You can get all this stuff through your nearest BLA dealer.

Cheers,
Tim
