What Did You Get Your's to do

It's been said a few times that guys shouldn't buy boats purely for Breamin. This got me thinking. I've had a chat to heaps of Breamers who are new boat owners and I'm stunned how many would never have bought a boat were it not for their involvement with BREAM.

So, how about letting us know what YOU bought your boat to do.

I got mine coz my azz kept going to sleep fishing from a bloody canoe!

Took Phil Curran (naval architect makes alloy boats) fishing in the canoe and once his azz went to sleep, I got a boat!

Well thats sorta how it worked. There mighta been a few more discussions in between and some bartering.

So mine was to catch troots, not brims, but hey - same dog different leg!

Were I to do ity again I'd a got smething with more freeboard i could survey into 2C restricted for nearshore (within 5 Nm of land) ocean use, rather than the bream type boats that are really only suited to river / inlanmd waters use.

Lets face it - if you had the right boat you'd do more triops away up north fishing for bigger / more fish.

Breamin and troutings fun, BUT they can be caught out of boats that are more seaworthy than essentially barra punts specifically designed for rivers.

The $ involved are similar - seems a shame not to get more bang for the buck is how I look at it.

Hindsights always 20/20 vision.

I want to know for the reasons above. Bit of research for a column.

I was always planning to get a boat and always looking but it took the sudden and unexpected (tragic) death of a mate to make me realise that I needed to live a bit more for today.

So I stopped putting off the purchase and bought one that same week. I am glad I did have am enjoying getting out as often as I can, meeting new people and occasionally catching a bream.

I just looked at the 4 choices and none fit so I posted a response, I didn't realise you deliberately wanted to skew the results for an unstated ulterior motive, and stifle debate or ignore hard won practicle experience along the way?

Should make a neat column!

Seriously, I got mine for everything that isn't offshore, it's a bonus that it suits Breamin' so well ........ and a built in livewell makes a great esky when there's no fish in it

we got our 435 Quinny topender for alot of inclose and offshore work and some crabbing in the rivers, it fitted in quite well that it works well as abream boat aswell. Hmmmm... just gotta talk my dad into a leccy!

I have a 3.7mtre bullnose punt.Came with a suzi 5hp, total cost was a swap for my $500 computer. Since bought a 4 stroke 2001 model yamaha 15hp and man does she fly. Installing live wells at the moment and heading to the comp. I have worked on charter boats, all my friends and relatives have big boats and I wouldnt trade for anyone of em.

after fishing in the 02\03 round of BREAM tourney's sick of standing in poorly set up boats or hire boats.

bought a boat [stessl 465 truck conventionally hull] so i can go off shore and also fish in the bream comps.

origanally brought my first boat ( a few months ago )a s/h 3.4 sea hunter just to do a little bit of fishing with the misses.With the aim of just useing it in the rivers and estuaries in W.A. After checking all the posts on this site and reading about all you guy chaseing bream I thought I would give it a go.Have enjoyed the challenge but now find myself getting frustrated with with my boat set up.

The 8hp motor gets it around ok but sick of rowing(against the breeze and current) to try to get into a good position and sneak up on the little buggers. There is no room to fit an elec.time to change boats.( I'm sucked in to catching these little buggers)

I was checking out a STACER 420 PROLINE ANGLER locks the goods. has any body got on or tried one .any feed back would be great.

Just got my boat a couple of months back after getting into breamming seriously. Went for a second hand 4.0 sea hunter with a old 18hp merc for more space as I usually fish with my mate and both our gfs...

Happy with the space so far but then we probably would have lots more space and power had we left the girls at home...

Looking at getting an electric to sneak up on those spooky breams at the moment. ( It would help if I run out of fuel again ).

i sold my 20footer to leave east and when i came here i bought a 4m tinny and had several since. im now lookin at a 4.55 plastic with foward controls for breamin and ofshore fishing and still be light enough to tow to the 80 mile beach twice a year
