Any suggestions???

I've been gradually learning to fish the Plastics recently and have been out every day for a week now at different times, tides and spots along the Parra and Lane Cove Rivers.

Ive landed 3 Bream to date on plastics, but my problem is the by-product. Bloody Flathead!!!! Whats doing with these ballsy little buggers that will hit anything!!??

Any tips on lowering the by-catch and increasing the Breamos?

Im getting the jist of colours, plastic types and techniques, I just wish more Bream would hit them.

Today I fished the hour before High and the hour past high till dark for 6 Flathead. I had 2 solid hit and runs but failed to hookup. But sure enough the pesky little lizards just keep coming! LOL.

Hey

Flatties just sit at the bottom being random so it kinda depends on what country your fishing in. If you hit man-made structures where there are mussel encrusted pylons etc then you can do a lil vertical jigging where the flatties wont be and that'l get you into some bream for sure.

If your fishing flats or weedbeds then your gonna get harassed heaps by flatties and not too many bream.

Since the bream fellas take placcies on the drop try 3 dimensional areas if that makes sense...like target places where the bream could be hanging around at some water level and off the bottom where the flatties would be? Basically work your plastic little guy off the bottom and it wont bump into any stinkin 2d flathead fish

Thanks Torvic. Unfortunately Im land based at the moment so that limits me a little, and yes Ive been fishing lots of flats and weed beds. Found a nice little spot with a wall thats accessible facing a bank of mangroves I might hit....but there are a couple of spots with nice concrete structure and depth that are accessible also.

I guess keep trying, thats something that I cant get sick of.

Congrats on your first few bream ,
Wish i could recomend a place that only has bream, but alas i carnt Drop down I.C at ther moment im getting more bream than lizards, but unlike you i dont mind them.
I have a way of unhooking them quick and easy, not like before when i use to have to put my foot on them to get my hook back
Im going down there this arvo might see you there starting at haberfield rowing club and working my way around.

Snag, What time are you starting at Haberfied? Im working back tonight but was going to take the required 2-3 hour break between the shifts and hit Putney, but I'll sure try and get to Haberfield Rowers and work the Apia club with ya.
