new rod and reel setup

alright i have been putting this off for a while so it's about time that i treated myself, plus my other setup has gone up DohDohDohDoh creek ally.

so what does everyone suggest for a good setup for about $200. what i need is a setup for both hard and soft plastics, and i would like to have a little bit of change for more soft plastics or braid.

Theres not really much I could suggest without repeating anything from the other threads on this issue. Theres a heap of stuff mentioned about this already so have a look around.

Ah heck, go check out the shimano stella spin rod and an Av15 , or a daiwa regal Z

The rod is a little soft but is awesome for sp's and you can really get some funky actions going with its whippy tip

i agree with torvic...but you could also look at the Diawa Heartland IM6 (availiable through this site).

If I had $200 to spend on a rod I'd wait till I had enough money for a Strudwick. I cannot tell you how many fish this rod has caught me on days when guys standing next to me get bugger all. The rod is everything, reel is so so but the rod is what gives u feel.

I'd rather have a Strudwick (the rod that just won Mandurah BREAM) with a $70 Jarvis Walker on it than an okay rod and an okay reel.....

If you want to catch more fish don't waste your time with cheap rods, get the best you can for your bucks, Strudwick, Miller Bream Buster, Loomis, Black Diamond Bream Reaper, something out of there will get you onto fish...........

Buy a Strudwick TPS, use it for a few months and if you don't think that it is worth the $400 odd bucks I'll pay for it for you. That is how highley I rate these rods. You'll never look back.

Yeah I've heard nothing but good news about the Struddies, and the last time I had a feel of one it felt like a wand

Btw are these mainly a softies or hb rod? Are they a 'stiffer' rod? Or do they vary?

It depends on the model...but IMO the struddies are the best SP's rods on the market. The have an awesome tip and great feel. A lil soft for HB's though IMO. Im talking about the TPS range in 1-3kg.
I personally prefer Loomis for HB's and Struddies for SP's.

Yeah the 1-3kg TPS is a bit soft, i got a 7ft 2-4kg TPS for hardbodies and it is phwoooaaarrrr. Had it a while now and I love it heaps, worth every cent and then some The 1-3kg TPS rods are nice though, but definitley not what i was after in a hard body rod.
The TPS series flyrods are even more phwoooaaarrr, for those of you that way inclined (me for example)
What model TPS you using Ira?

but i have decided to keep my old rod (because i love the action and feel of it, plus i won it at swan fish a few years ago and has never failed me) and get it rebinded and new guides put on it.

i have bought one of the banax reels and i am very happy with it. tryed it out down at mandurah and up at ravenswood. didn't get any bream, but had good fun on the tailor, with metal slices.


still waiting to get my first bream on the reel thou.

G'day, I'm not a die hard bream fisho that spends hundreds on a bream rod but I do use a Live Fibre "Lightning" bream spin rod and it casts softies and HP's with ease and at $129 it is a pretty good buy.
