For reddies you will want something with heavy eyes to get down- never seen them take anything from off our just under the surface but they may well do.

Apart from that lots of flash and make sure the fly is red. It should work.

I take it we are talking Redfin as I call snapper reddies too but I don't think I'll ever see a snapper in a dam!!!! Any way I would first tie on a pattern based around the Bass Vampire style of patterns and like Brad suggested something with a bit of red in it. A bloody vampire would be a good start which is a vampire tied with red chenille instead of the standard black - I tie one with both black and red twisted together so you have a mixture of both as the "body". If the water is dirty I would use gold flash and a pattern that "pushes" a bit of water like a Venison fly which is tied a bit like a Dalhberg diver but designed for sub surface work mainly targetting saratoga and bass. Like Brad mentioned you really should be looking at fishing the flies along the bottom but I wouldn't discount the idea of fishing a Wiggle Minnow on a sink tip line or even an intermediate line. From my lure fishing experience in SA I found the redfin loved a lure with a good wiggle/roll in its action and if you fish a floating wiggle minnow fly (say black foam/red chenille body, tail red marabou)on a sinktip line short leader with long slow strips and a good pause you will get a similar action. The fly will slowly dive wiggling toward the bottom then rising on the pause I use this method to catch flathead using a full sink line. Your strips must be slow otherwise it tightens up the action of the fly and wouldn't be as attractive. Tying of all these flies should be on the net if you can't find them let us know and I will post a tying instruction Pat Here's a few pics to consider vampire "style" ties, some Venison type flies and a wiggle minnow.

hey mate i was catching a few today on small weighted clousers and heavily weighted crazy charlies both in white, orange and gold. i was fishing clearish flowing water with a inter line and short leader. got most of them around the edges.
but also i catch them on small surface flys in whites little gurglers are great. but muddler and and unweighted foam backed clousers work.

cheers mitch

Chillidawg try Michah's Bream buster pattern as well - must be a buzz getting them on the surface. As far as where and when -where ? put a call out post under WA hotspots for some ideas you may not get exact spots but I'm sure someone will steer you to typical areas. When ? I only fished for them in SA during the warmer months typically Dec-March but that was mainly because I was fishing for other fish during the cooler periods e.g.bream & salmon Hope that helps Pat
