Motor Tachos

Hi All

I was wondering if anyone has had much experience with the one wire tachos, where the wire gets wrapped around the high tension lead of the spark plug. The wire senses the revs of the engine through induction as the energy travels down to the spark plug. I connected one up on Saturday to do some testing and try to sort out the correct prop size. The issue that I had was the engine seemed to start missing once I hit the higher revs 5500RPM and above. The only thing I could think of was the wire was causing the lead to break down and start shorting through it to some other point on the engine casing, down the wire I had wrapt around the high tension lead. It was working well below 5000 RPM, I know that the energy builds up in the spark lead when the revs get higher.

I could take the wire off when I was out on the water yesterday as I was in a fishing comp, could not waste time. Going out on the water this weekend with the family so just wanted to make sure all was good, no other problem before I got to the water again.

Thanks Leachy
