I wonder what a nation wide push to ban netting of bream would do.
When you have the might of DohDohDoh, Western Angler, Bream Master, QFM, NSWFM and other publications all pushing the same barrow, we just might acheive something. If we all centre our attention on one politician, river system at a time, yet throw the full weight of our combined voices behind it, you just might be surprised as to the result. Let's get some feedback as to the various representatives and their thoughts on combining the effort: Madfish (Mark Halse) - Western Angler Ira Fehlberg - Fishing WA Steve Morgan - Queensland / New South Wales Fishing Monthly The Bream Master membership... Plus anyone else who as access to a media outlet. What do you think guys... Steve, you're online at the moment, perhaps you'd like to comment on the pro's netting out the clyde before the comp and then telling everyone they did it so the Clyde competition was affected. Looking at it from a purely economical point of view, I think what we need to do is get some figures regarding the recent BREAM grand final and what was injected into that local economy.
If we can provide accurate dollar amounts as to what was injected by the competitors and family we have a good foundation. Its all about $$$ for the federal and state governments. If we cant get anything for the final, perhaps the Mandurah comp can be used as a test case. On the Friday briefing we can hand out an expense form to all competitors to allow them to document what was spent by them IN Mandurah. ie fuel food accom etc etc. Just an idea to get a better idea on what we are really spending in the towns we visit on our roadshow |

I also remember that we have a few ecomomics people that visit the site often.
Perhaps if one of you could knock up a quick expenses form and email it to me (duffbeer@iinet.net.au) I can print it for the comp. Something else that could be done by our resident sticker makers is to create some large-ish "Ban Inland Netting" stickers to be placed on boats and even car windows. While im on a little role here lets have petitions created and put into tackle stores around the state/country and PERSONALLY deliver them to the relevant fisheries minister. |

you guys hearts is in the right place and I am certainly against the inland netting both recreational and pro of estuaries for bream.
That said - the govt would say they are doing just that. The govt are giving these estuaries to CALM as marine parks where no fishing will be alowed at all... Problem solved. No Netting (or bream comps either!) ![]() This is the Govts way of being "equitable" about it all -= if tyhe pros are out so are the rec fishers altogether - then there can be no argument. This big push for the banning of inland netting is being deliberately turned against the recreational anglers deliberately bye this govt, they see that as the only way to appease ALL sides in the debate - tale it away from everyone. Happy now? Maybe this push toBAN inland netting needs to be approached in a different way if you don;t want to be penalised alongside the very pro netters your all targetting. At the moment I'd say the Govt has done ( is doing) a VERY neat Job of shooting you ALL in the foot. Ya hafta admit tho - it DOES solve the netng issue and it even makes em look green for the upcomming election - what the Govt would call a win win win situation. ![]() Remember the old addage of being careful what you wish for, lest you actually get it?... I'd say the Govt are sitting back with a wry smile over this one! ![]() Be very very carefuill is what I'd suggest to you all - Ira made a HECK of a LOT of noise thru his editorial at DohDohDoh and the Govt are now taking steps to "get even" with a solution before the election - i hope we can all live with the result, marine parks banning ALL anglers from ALL decent Black bream estuaries... Govt spin doctors have a funny way looking at issues latterally and turning bad news into good nes for the Govt. Looks to me like they have very neatly shyte all over the ban netting issue bye introducing marine parks. In Chess about now - they would be saying "Check mate!". Cheers! |

Well Mr Thesus err Trouty
![]() I can certainly see what your point is and we all know how the government works. While it does look like that is the path they are taking, I still feel we need to try. It is something we are all passionate about. People like the police Union, Teachers union etc can all make enough noise with a few thousand members. While fisherman are not directly raising revenue for the government we are still doining it indirectly. We have tried the forceful, the public and unfortunately by some people the slanderous method. I really feel it is time we tried the 2 most importnat methods to the state and federal government. Votes and the all mighty $$$. Writing letters isnt going to accomplish much but im sure that 30-50 boats parked out the front of parliment house in ALL states WILL be noticed. Media personel like Ira and Steve from DohDohDoh, Frank from Recfish and even Starlo, Rex or Buschy being the Spokepeople for a proper rally....... Start small.. Give them the figures.. Give them a pettition. Then set a date for a rally. Theres a plan. We have "leaders" amongst us that have high public profile. Lets do it. |

Why not an e-petition.
Easy enough to set-up I would have thought. If not, one in the shop as well and a bit of stirring at the boat show. Get peoples signatures when they come to watch the weigh-in.

Well a petition can be put up on this site, DohDohDoh, WA etc etc pending the approval of the webmasters.
The boat show is also a good place for a petition. I know ANSA has a stand there and I think Recfish do aswell. Again I stress we need high profile people in the media to say "Hey come sign this" or else alot of people will not take notice. One thing we need to ensure is that this is done maturely. Personal attacks on anybody only discredit the "cause" Last edited by bubba; 06-10-2003 at 10:20 PM. |

Why not get the opposition party involved and get them to implement the banning of netting as one of there policies.
Similar to what the cuurant government did with ban on logging of old growth forrest. Hurt them where it counts in the polls. Daws |

wanna send some info - background and maybe a question to your local member about what the oppositions policy is with regard to the netting of estuaries by rec and pro alike?
Heres Paul O's secretary Pams email addy! pbodswor@mp.wa.gov.au Be interesting to hear what the Oppositions policy is - are they planning to repeal the marine parks enacted by labor? Will they support the cessation of recreartional and professional netting of estuaries? Maybe post up your reply when (if) you get one! Cheers & good luck! |
