6' 2-6lb rod what reel? 1000v2500??
Hiya everyone, currently run a 2500FI stradic (4lb braid) on a 2-4kg Trion and have just purchased a new 2-6lb rod.
Now all it needs is a reel! I've narrowed it down to a ci4 (wouldn't mind a fancy daiwa reel but budget won't allow it atm with uni fees) but im not sure whether to run a 2500 size - adding on 35 grams of weight from the 1000 ci4 but an extra 4 kilo's of drag? .. Now i generally fish the goldy-coast canals landbased and sometimes on boats (80% landbased) so the only reason i'm even contemplating a 2500 is because i normally run into trevally which im not sure i'd be able to stop + land on a 1000? Thoughts/Suggestions? I'd rather spend <$300 on the reel (not including line) so what should i be looking at reel wise? brand/size? Any help muchly appreciated, cheers!

Mate, I would nearly go the 2500 the ci4 are so light you could be OK. I have a personal preference for for the 2500 I find I get more wind knots with the 1000 sized reels. I am thinking could be a lazy/clumsy angler more that the reel.
As always take the rod down to a tackle shop and try the reel on the rod, it is a balance thing in the end.

So just go with what feels right? Im almost tempted to get a 2500 for this and also a cheaper 1000; 2500 when i know theres trevs around and then 1000 for breamming?
thanks for ur reply tho mate

If the 2500 feels OK you may not need the 1000 especially if you are going down in quality from the ci4 you will probably find a 1000 is as heavy as the 2500 ci4 if not heavier.

I use a Samurai 101 1-2kg rod with a fireblood 2500 and it's a perfect balance with it. The 101 is 7ft though. The ci4 2500 is a little lighter than the fireblood 2500 so I think the 2500 is all that you'd need to combat both the bream and trevs.
