I am keen to hear from anyone who has a 4-Stroke engine on the back of their boat that also uses the boat for watersport. I am looking at a 4-Stroke engine as an option but want to be able to tow a biscuit, get someone up on skis doubles and single as well as wakeboarding mainly the kids but also the big kid every now and then
. I keep hearing a 2-stroke is better for hole shot but is a 4-stroke capable. The boat is primarily a fishing boat so the advantages of a 4-stroke hold but with kids they also enjoy a bit of fun. Interested to know what sort of boat and horsepower engine you have used and what scenarios you have had someone behind the boat. Also, if you have made any mods to be more suited to water sports, different prop etc be good the hear what you have done and how effective it was. TIA

Crikey, was the guy on the single doing a deep start? I tried to deep start my brother in-law on my 50hp 2-Stroke and nearly drowned him.

I guess it depends on the boat it is pushing. We used to ski on a old Quintrex with the strearing up the front with a 2 Stroke 40Hp. It used to pull the boat around a bit but went OK. I think we even used to get two up doing beach starts and a bit of slack, very small amount of slack.

The question comes from the comment people make when the question is asked regarding the choice of a 2-stroke or a 4-stroke motor. If for skiing etc the 2-stroke has better hole shot. No prob that the 2-stroke has better hole shot but does the 4 stroke have enough hole shot to get a skier up on a single etc.
I am guessing it does but interested in some real word examples.

A mate of mine uses his boat pretty much 90% for wakeboarding, has the full frame mounted for towing and holding boards etc. His boat is a 17ft glass bowrider (can't remember the manufacturer) and he has 120hp Suzuki 4 stroke on the back of it. He has no issues with hole shot and getting up on the board. Mind you he's 6'5" and 125kg, so I don't think have an issue as long as the motor is matched to your hull.
