Leaking lures...

To my disgust one of my lures (made by a well respected Japanese company) seems to be leaking, this lure is practically brand new without any damage.

Not having a receipt to return to the tackle store I contacted the Australian distributer by email a few days ago but have not yet had any response.

Now I'm reluctant to publicly shame them but I will if they fail to return customer queries.

Anyone had any experience in dealing with any said companies/distributors?

Cheers,
Michael.

Hi Paps

I wouldn,t name the company. As you have sent a email to the aus dist
you should now follow up with a phone call. Also saying that you sent the email on the date of ______ and have not yet had a response to your issue at hand.

Honestly who would keep a tax invoice from the tackle shop.but we should do for our insurance reasons also including home insurance.

Agree with you Smokingdragz, I am a big fan of their products too so I wouldn't give them bad publicity based on one 'bad egg' but bad customer service may warrant it.

Phone contact was my next point of call but unfortunately they have no phone number listed under contacts, rather only email.

G'day Michael,

If you know the guys at the tackle'o that you bought the lure from and from your description it sounds like the lure is practically brand new, I think it's quite likely that they'll happily replace the lure for you on the spot. Always worth a shot, especially if you're in there quite frequently.

I know this was the case when I was in the industry and regular customers used to come in with similar problems and a receipt was not necessary.

Cheers ruski.

Yeah that is a good idea, but im definitely not a regular! It's rare i venture into a tackle store as I'm mostly an online only purchaser.

I did however find their phone contact so I'll give them a call and let you guys know how I got on.

Update:

Just got off the phone to them.

Apparently they have received my email but the person in charge of such instances has been away for a few days. So they assured me that they will get back to me.

Would have been nice if they could have responded to my email with that information instead of making me chase them up.

Hopefully they resolve the matter when the said person comes back.

No matter what brand you will always get a lure that will leak. i have about three or four tiemco topwaters that leak and are now rusty on the inside, but I will still buy them as they are a great little lure.
Had a jaz zapper last all of 1/2 hour, I put that down to being just a cheapy.
These things are bound to happen in the world of mass production.

You're going to a lot of effort for one lure. The fact is that every now and then you will get a dud - regardless of brand. That's just the way it is when it comes to mass production of any product. If it happens again then there might be an issue, but in the case of a one-off I'd just let it go and buy another one (especially if it catches plenty of fish).

I have the problem pretty often with atomic hardz. Lucky I don't pay much for them hey!!! It is usually my fault though. I find that when i leave the lure box on the deck of my boat the Atomic's deform and melt slightly. One of them became a real gun lure. For some reason I caught way more fish on it than an identical new one. I liked that I could fish it a bit deeper too!!

I would just try it with water in it. If it has a good action too it could be another lure to cover another situation.

As a consumer I think I have the right to expect the products I buy to do exactly what they are designed to do and be without fault.

This goes with anything, but even more so when you are supposedly buying top of it's class gear at a premium price.

I don't see why I should donate them $25 for a product which is faulty.

if you get any new lure that has water in it, take it back to the shop or contact the importer/ manufacturer. it may be a one off dud or part of a bad batch. this feedback allows the supplier to get in touch with the factory and pass that feedback on to hopefully allow for produc improvement.

Yep. Sound advice Zim Man, that makes for a better product for everyone.

I just heard back from the distributor and they have told me to send the lure back to them so they can see why it has happened and they will be sending me out a replacement.

So a good outcome for both parties

Quite often if you just take the lure back to any good tackle store that stocks the same lures they will do the warranty for you.
After about 20 years selling tackle and owning a few shops, I always saw myself as an agent for the products I sold and never questioned where the product came from or demanded reciepts, as long as I stocked the product and it was readily available. I just put it down to an old fashioned thing called customer service.
