2lb Vanish

A bloke at a local tackle shop told me that I should think about spooling up with 2lb (0.9kg!!) Vanish and fishing this straight through to the jighead.

He reckons this has improved his catch rate immeasurably and that more of the well know tournament fishers are taking this approach.

I'd be interested to know if anyone on this site uses this approach and if they've seen any improvement in results. I'd also be interested to hear how many bust-offs you've had...!!

I have a spool of 2lb vanish, it improves your distance casting no end. You just have to pick where you use it. I wouldn't be using around the leases.

In saying that I havn't nailed a fish on it yet so I can't comment on how it performs.

I've tried fishing with 2 lb monofilament nylon, it's difficult as there is so much stretch and it is so soft and easy to break.
I settled on 4 lb as the best all round breaking strain for Bream fishing.

More like he's finally watched breamin II and saw Starlo doing it. Starlo and Bushy are the "only" tournament anglers I know that do it. Even then it's only when the fish are "very" finicky. You find that a lot of retail staff are out there advising guys on gear for breaming, and have very little experience with bream on lures. All they do is regurgitate what they hear from reps and vid's etc.

Most anglers use 4lb Fireline which is narrower in diameter than the 2lb Mono, with a 6-12lb leader. We've got 6 or so of the top 20 Eastcoast anglers that purchase Fireline through us regularly. If this is an indication of what the top guys are using (we don't sell gear to all of them), then I can't see too many using 2lb Vanish.

2lb mono is too light to stop a lot of fish. If you're fishing open water or snagless river bank then try it. You'll still need to be very careful and fish a light drag. If you need to stop a fish from heading toward snags or rocks, forget it.

Stick to your Fireline, it's proven and will help you develop as an angler more than 2lb mono that you have to be very delicate with while fishing.

I gave it a go a long time ago & while I took fish on it I found it very difficult to feel takes on. I also lost a lot after hooking up when the hooks dropped out as you can't sink em properly. It took forever to land fish & a long time to revive them as well.

Like everything I suppose it has its applications but for mine if I can't get a fish on 4 pound fireline I'll call em too hard & go home & suck a cold VB instead.

Well I've been trying 4lb flouro/mono all the way through with good results, as have others I know...especially when the water is clear or super cold...

I have seen 4lb flouro/mono work really well on the flats and I believe in the right circumstance I would use it...in saying that we are supposed to be talking about 2lb...

So in saying that, I'd have to agree with warren...it may have its place in very occasional circumstances, but in my opinion you would need to be a very good angler to use it (i.e. Buschy/Starlo type experience)...

Stick with 4lb fireline/braid and if you want something up your sleeve then try 4lb flouro/mono all the way through...experiment with it before you use it in a comp.

Hi Guys, I have been useing Berkley Trilene 4lb green fluro for many years now, when lure casting for sooty grunter, jungle perch, bass and bream. I have found it to have great resistance to abrasions and ideal for ultra light lure casting and a extremly long reel life.

lol guess I must be one of the few mono uses left in the world, but I find it just does not suite my style of fishing.

Bloody hell,
I'd think 2lb is dancing with the devil unless you're using it to catch poddy mullet or yakka's for livebait !
I used to use 4lb mono for trout stream spinning etc, but haven't looked back after being introduced to fireline !

Thanks for the advice Guys..I've got no complaints about my 4lb Fireline/6lb Siglon setup and haven't seen any convincing reason to change.
