Sevylor HF360 Electric Motor
Hi,
I have a sevylor HF360 inflatable boat and curently have an old 2-stroke 3.3hp motor that is no longer reliable and is noisy. I am looking to maybe put a trolling motor on it, most likely a 55lb 12v. Question. Will this push my boat with 1 other person and equipment up a river against the current. Say the Maribynong or werribee rivers in victoria. |

From what I understand
Brad..
From what I understand it should easily do it.... Ive got a fish hunter 250 and Im going to get myself a 28 pound model which should be plenty... so a 55 should make it ROAR along... Ive been told that a canoe with a 30lb on it should make the front stick out of the water when cranking it!!! so it should do the work no probs... Make sure u get a big enough battery so it doesnt go flat half way up the river or home.. Blake |

how do you guys find the fish hunter boats (minus the motor, just paddles)??
i am considering one of these, or an inflatable kayak... |

Good!
Im find them pretty good actually..
even just using paddles they still move through the water pretty well, easy to move around etc. Just rig up some sort of anchor otherwise cause they isnt anything of the boat really in the water, if the tide moves or the wind is up you wont be able to stay in the same spot, Id recommend one to anyone.. just buy a little 12v inflator, 10-15 mins and your away, Blake |

i am just wondering.,.. what kind of anchor for an inflatable (without ripping a hole in the boat)? and... do you stay pretty dry with these things>? |

I use
I use a concrete block or couple of house bricks.
Just have a bucket in the boat that can hold the bricks and tie them together, attach to nylon rope.. then just lower it into the water.. let it hit the bottom and tie it off.. Honestly the only time Ive got really wet was when it rained. Not from below but wet from above.. Seeing as you are paddlling u dont really move fast enough to generate spray so you dont have to worry about that, Any more questions... just ask away, Blake |

i guess ulitmately, how it compares with an inflatable kayak/canoe, or a perception minnow kayak for example.
i have a small corolla seca 5 door car and no space in the garage to store anything large. do you think the fish hunter is good for esturay fishing? and can you actually get about with paddles or is it going to be way way slow? |

Yeah
You can get about pretty easy,
I fish creeks pretty often and it make take you like 10-15 mins to get to most places that are a few hundred (like 500+) metres away its not really that difficult. If at some stage you find it to slow, they sell an attachement so that you can attach it with an electric motor (not their own brand electric as it has NO power) but a minn kota 28 or 30. Ive read on this site that someone that owned a 28lb couldnt even put it into top gear on the canoe as it lifted the whole front out of the water! try this website http://www.biasboating.com.au/ you wont be able to get em cheaper anywhere.. plus they sell the attachement for the electric and the electric motors cheaper then anyone too! Hope this helps, Blake |

yes, i am familiar with the fact you can get a motor for the sevylor, however, in victoria, any propelled craft, regardless of power and size, require the operator to have a boating license and registration of the craft... i say stuff that!

and oh... do you have the 'boat boot' cover as well? it's ugly camo pattern, but does that make the boat better?

I have the 250
Yeah I have the 250..
Its a tight fit with 2 people and all your gear.. Personally Id go the 280 or 300 seriers.. but the 360 is a BIG BOAT! but the room would be great to have. I dont have the camo boot but it would help in giving it an extra layer around the boat in case u run up against something. So far Ive had a couple of little holes in the boat but Ive never felt like it was going to sink, there are just to many different air pockets to fill when you put air in it. Ive been out for hours and it had a slow leek. didnt even worry about it. So yes the camo boot would help but unless u are in Super snaggy waters like the one I use my boat in, i dont think its worth it. |
