Atomic Hard were $16.00....now they are $22-23
Bassday have all gone up $3.00-4.00
Zips are now $26.00-$27.00 except at TrailBlazers In Albany, who have some colours in the discount bins for $17.00
Jades have gone up
SX40's have creeped $2.00-4.00

There are definitely a few shops and reps capitalising on the bream craze and hard body trend, but if you shop around you can usually find a decent price on most gear.

We must all admit though, we're our own worst enemies. Take the ZipBait trend for instance, they must be the most hyped up lure at the moment, and as soon as the boom of conversation regarding them started the prices started to go up... There was the recent addition of a line of 'rattling' khamsins, these were basically begged for by the consumer, and the retailers knew this and charged accordingly. There is a shop here in adelaide that sells rattling and silent models side by side, and $7 more for the rattlers [if memory serves?? chop may know exact price?]

Just my two cents. Ive seen it [the hype that is] a few times, and been a part of it as well.

I'm pretty sure most of the Japanese lures got a 10% price increase to wholesalers last year due to increased Oil price and ongoing inceases in plastic, unfortunately although theres Hype we don't have the population or demand to turn over enough of these lures to get them at a cheaper price.
I know our markup is about as low as I can go at present.

I have reduced our prices slightly recently with better exchange rate but it's still not great as compared to the time before the financial crisis where the $Au was a fair bit stronger, so cant pass on much I'm afraid.

I think Mark is right, i have noticed over here in vic that the lure prices went up drastically when the yen went from about 95c back to 60c some lures hit over the $30 mark, these same lures are now back to $23.95.
DohDohDohDohDohDohDohDoh put their prices up with GFC, say on reels for example and they have now come back down.steez reels went from $625 to $899 and now back to $699 which with the current exchange rate is about right.

The simple answer to higher prices is shop around, if you are not happy paying that price buy elsewhere, As a business I would rather turn-over 3 times the stock @ a reduced mark-up than struggle to sell one at a higher mark-up.
They will eventually loose there customers and have to reduce to clear stock!

Just my $23.95's worth.
Dale.

I am sick to death of all the excuses given for high prices of imported goods.
When the oz $ goes down the retail price goes through the roof immediatly regardless of when stock was purchased.
When the $ goes back up the retail price stays high.
Then all the cliches start from importers, we purchased stock at the low $ price, manufacturing costs went up etc etc.
We have been in this global downturn for how long now? 12-18 months and the oz$ is stronger now than it has been for some time and still lure prices are higher than ever.
I wonder what the actual cost of a mass produced peice of moulded plastic from asia is?? 20cents 50cents maybe even $1 and were paying $20 - $30 Retail
Im sick of being ripped off and then told its not so because of all these various reasons that all ways result in the price going UP never down.
End of Rant.

not suggesting the wholesalers and importers are ramping up...maybe tackle shops should re-consider 100% markups

like Mark said its hard for niche tackle importers to make are dollar.....notice you arent ripping around in a nitro mate

but I think the Atomics Hards are rude....only middle of the range quality...

it was like get the Atomic established into the market....get crew catching on them so word spreads....then rip the price up to around the same price as the Topend jap stuff...where at least I can see where my money went ...Hards should be R2S prices...which in my mind are a bloody good lure for the price....

Might have to go back to old sckool Scorps and lazerpros....

I dont mind paying $25 for a Rollsroyce lure....not a ford falcon

I dont mind the Hards either....I was going to buy a couple more but when I saw the price.....get stuffed

I spent my bread on the better quality pups with the sliding weight system...and they come with high quality hooks

.

It's with everything. Prices go up, and up and up. If the demand is there we are pretty much forced to pay what is asked if we really want the product. I have established a pretty good relationship with a tackle store that is a little out of the way for me but I keep going back because he looks after me price wise.
