Not sure what the lure looks like but i've caught fish with the Zipbaits Skinny Pop Jr which is a 70mm lure. Im guessing you still could with a 75mm. Just work on your retrieve if your having troubles.

Isn't that a rover 110?
personally i don't think the lure is too big, considering most people use Sammy's, dog x jnr, top dogs etc...
these lures are slightly smaller in length but are also fatter.
maybe try a more subtle technique or maybe it's just working out what the fish want on the day and delivering it to them in a way they find appealing.
if your fishing flats try to watch and see what bait is there for them to feed on and how it's moving. try to mimic this and you should have no problems...
Also worth noting that most times with the larger surface lures you are getting a reaction strike not always a hunger strike so hang it in their faces for long periods and annoy the crap out of them. some days this is the only way to entice a strike while other days they will hit almost anything...
Feel free to add to this because im far from a surface luring expert and still struggle most days to get quality fish but this is just what I've learnt.

No way is the lure too big, a 40cm whiting wont struggle taking out that lure, like i mentioned in another recent post, i was catching 20cm whiting on a 70 mm lure.

Work it fast, and the whiting dont care.

Goodluck,

Yea the image is 110mm version, but he said it was the smaller version with no middle hook. I'm pretty sure he's refering about the 75 mm size.

Whiting really don't give a sh*t as to the size of the lure. If it moves they'll go for it. Big lures also help deter smaller bream, meaning you don't waste your time with tiny fish. Having said that, smaller bream will sometimes still have a crack at it.

That's a Sugapen, it's 70mm long. That whiting is tiny, and there were a whole bunch of them trying to eat it - this one just got there first.

A good lure size really depends on exactly where you're fishing, the size of the bream you're likely to encounter and maybe what sort of mood the bream are in on the day.
In most cases smaller tends to be better, but around some of the big NSW lakes we've had success with 110 mm surface lures, especially when some breeze if ruffling the water surface.
