Lures for Jacks

Hey guys,

was just up at surfers paradise during the christmas/new years period and was targetting bream and jacks.
Although there were some bream, I was unable to get any jacks to pay attention to my lures.
I cant remember the names of them, but I tried a fair few hardbodies that were recommended to me by a tackle store up there. I tried lures from 5cm to 12cm, red, green, gold, shallow divers, deep divers, you name it.

There is the possibility there just werent any around where I was fishing, but if that wasnt the case, I would really appreciate if anyone who targets jacks can give me a few recommendations as to which lures they found to be the best, and perhaps their favourite retrieves.

Any information on plastics would also be really helpful.

Thanks guys.

PS: For the record im heading back up on the 25th of Jan, so ill be able to test any suggestions out then and hopefully post some pics up of my success

From my time targeting the jacks on the gold coast there are a few things i have noticed. The last half of the falling tide is nearly always the best bite time, especially one late at night, they can be very hard to tempt when there is lots of boat traffic around. As for lures i have had most success on smith cherry bloods, lucky craft bevy shads and jackal squirrels and i think they defintely do have a preference for golds oranges and reds. Just fish areas with lots of rock, potoons and jetties and deeper water close by.

Im not too sure if I remember correctly, but i think i recall seeing some good jacks ( not sure where) caught on Rob Gaden F18 lures? They look the goods and im sure a jack would take them, anyone seen jacks caught on these?
