Better lures for bream than i am using now?

Hi all.

Just looking for reccomendations on lures for bream, diving minnows?

I have alot of trout minnows I currently use: Rapalas, yo-zuri, Halco's, Tilsan and strikepros.

I have noticed that I dont see many using the same lures as I do.

What are the best hardbodies for bream? I can see the sx40 is extremely popular so I will get some of those. Any others worth getting?

Unlike trout, bream seem to take a wider variety of lures than trout do(in HArdbodies). So it makes the choice kind of daunting.

Reckon the best way is to pay particular attention to the pics the more succesfull guys put up. Not always a true indication of whats working i'm sure (read strategic product placement), but will give you an idea. I also think that what works in one area may not neccessarily work in another, but personally I have found it hard to go past my colection of SX48F's. Perhaps they are working for me over some of the others as my action suits them better than it does some of the others I dont know. Just seems to be working for me.

I've seen alot of pics on here of bream on hardbodies and it seems that ecogear are the main lures to use for bream. Also, on the AFC series they use the chubby jackal ALOT for bream so thats another lure to think about getting. Yea man, the list goes on

Ok, Ecogear sx40's and Chubbies.

I might get a few sx40's first it looks like thats a failsafe choice I feel from whats been said and the fact it is in many bream pics.

Thanks guys I will get some soon and keep you posted.

MBC, try these

Rapala - Husky Jerks or cd5
Yo-Zuri - Eba Shads or Eba Minnows
Halco - Laser Pro or Scorpion
Tilsan - minnow
StrikePro - Pygmy II or Bass X

They are all proven bream catchers and you probably have some (if not all) in your trout tackle box

If you want some of best casting lures on the market then try some of the ZipBaits models available, they all catch fish can be fished straight out of the box and come in a range of custom colours for our Bream.

The Khamsin Jr has accounted for some very big Bream just do a search on Breammaster and you'll see what I mean

Hi. I have many Halcos, laserpros and scorpions. I have caught most of my bream so far on these. Tilsan minnow works too but the scorpion in brown trout is really good. I also have a few bass-x which i have tried but dont seem to work like the scorp and laserpro. You are right I do have alot of those lures you have recommended.

I might go to DohDohDoh now and see if they are open boxing day to get some sx40's first up.

Hypertackle- Yeah i saw the competition on here, alot of big bream are caught on Zipbaits. Next on the list with chubbies.

will get a few of those after i get a few sx40s, they seem to be the 'commodore' of bream lures, everyone has em.

SX40, chubbies, zipbaits, got it.

Thanks guys.

As Mark Said if you have strike Pros from your trouting ventures, then you are most likely already set.

Yeah, but they are a commodore at bentley prices. There are better lures that haven't had their prices artificially inflated by some strong promotion. There seems to be about a $10 range on the sx40's some places they are $17 and others upto $27... they are definately worth having in the tackle box but don't go over the top on them and sacrifice trying others out so that you can have the whole set. I was trying to stock my lure box not long ago and am glad that i forced myself to try other lures because they will all catch fish in the right circumstances.

Haha, I got some sx40's. $19.95.

They are not cheap breamwjoy. But some of my rapala's and yo-zuri's are alot dearer. Maybe they are more of an SS THUNDER UTE than a commo!

Going through my boxes of lures I found some strikepro smallfries2. These were not the best for trout but maybe for bream they are ok. I did a search and there are a few that use these.

Kind of want to get a small kit of lures that are bream specific.

prob going to hita a river tomorow. Maribynong or someplace further?

I am 6foot 6 and i usually wear a red rapala hat. I should be easy to spot.

Thanks heaps guys, so glad I got on this. I feel alot more confident now.

Hopefully bump into you all and have a fish.

John

Maybe next time you plan on buying some bream lures try online. Stores like mylureshop.com & fishin.com.au will always save you quiet a bit of money compared to your local shop when your buying alot of lures
