Eye Colour?

Had this question come up in a recent post and would like to know what peoples thoughts are on this?

Does certain eye colour in lures seem to be more effective than others?

What colour eyes do you like in a lure?

Mark

yep, another vote for red here. make it 2. my girl said she likes red too
I think because a flash of red, appears to be some sort of injury. but im not sure if its as effective on fish, as it is on catching fisherman. As most animals do not see in full colour and i do know of some animals that cant even see red at all. not sure about fish tho.

Not sure if fish are colour blind but I think the red eyes look like a frightened fish.....

I love red eyes on them personally

Hi Mark,

Definitely red.

Not only does it make the lure (an imitation of a fish) look like it's injured, it also makes the lures like more aesthetically contrasting and unique to other lures on the market. And more attracting to fishos..

Whilst fish don't see colours as fosterfisho points out, some colours (whether it be eyes or the lures finish), change at different depths due to the effects of the colour spectrum changes in water depth and different clarity.

Lure colours and their overall finish become more of a contrast against the background they are presented, which can make the lure stand out and insight a strike from the fish.

Sorry in advance for the longwinded answer.

from scientific tests carried out in a controlled environment, which only tests the animals ability to respond to certain colours, hence forth they can deduce what colours animals respond to the most = see clearly.
A less common known fact, is that bulls cannot see red.
hope that helps

Not sure how relevent it is to HB lures, but the Frank Sinatra colour Harimitsu Squid Jigs (named because of the deep blue eyes) seem to be popular. I'd like to see some Blue ones. But a nice red would be great

To weigh in on the discussion I personally find the red eye colour to be effective, but from a pure colour perspective in nature red gathers the most attention and brings the strongest reaction. Whether it be as a warning sign (red back spider) or as an advertising sign (ripe fruit).
Just finished watching a doco on the abc about colour perception from a couple of weeks ago.

I agree, this example can also be found in other animals such as non- venomous snakes, butterflys that are disguised to look like owls plus numerous others. But they also use other colours, such as yellow white and red plus blues and greens.
So does this mean animals can see colours, or shades of colours? or just certain markings that mean something? Sorry for hijacking your thread....
