Bimini Twist?
Hey fellow fisho's. Got the new outfit all ready to go but the weather is stopping play. I've ended up with 6lb fireline and I was wondering do I tie a double in the end and join this to my leader, which I also saw somewhere needs to be twice as long as my rod. All advice appreciated.
All revved up with no where to go!! Cheers Dale

You can tie a short double if you want, many people do, many don't though, including myself.
It works well to just tie the Fireline straight to the leader using a double uni-knot, try 8 turns of Fireline, and 4 or 5 of the leader. Have a look back through past questions in these forumns for more discussion on knots and leaders, "Search" might help there.

Dale, I've been experimenting with a bimini and albright lately and as yet I couldnt say that its any better than the double uni I normally use.
In terms of leader length, I like just over a rod length - just enough to keep the leader knot off the spool. |

Confidence
That's what Bream fishing is all about, i learnt how to tie a Bimini with the standard half Hitch method of tieing it off (and I feel like an accomplished angler now, I can die happy). The end result is a much stronger leader/ mainline connection and less time re-tieing, your bimini Loop should only be around 30cm long or even smaller. I have not had any leader knots slip, and i know i can really give it to the Fish if i have too, the only place i have been breaking off is at the bottom of my Lefties loop.
Just my two cents worth Regards Geoff

Get someone to show you how to do a rissioti(sp) finish to your bimini Geoff, it's much neater and way cooler.

Geoff, I also use a lefty, but for bigger lures, but are you tieing them on every HB and plastics too? Must be getting pretty good at tieing that knot now then. Cheers Dale

Dale, the Lefty Loop is knot #1 for hardbodies of any description. Really frees the lure action up and I've been using it for jigs as well lately.
