Looking For A Club
G'day all,
I'm looking to join a new fishing club, preferably one with the majority of anglers practising catch / tag and release and lure fishing. I live in Concord, Sydney but don't mind travelling to find a club full of keen lure fishos. Any ideas ?? Are the majority of you breamaholics in clubs, and if so, what type of fishing styles do your members practice ?? Cheers, Billy. |

The majority of us aren't
There are a few clubs here in Perth but I just think they complicate things, the majority of us guys (wa) are all mates or just share a common interest.
In some of the clubs I have seen about the place there tend to be little clique's and a lot of grandstanding by the more "elite" members of the group. They have to retain that "elite" status by not sharing info or by generally keeping stuff up thier sleeves, I won't ever become a member of a club. I reckon your just better off making as many contacts as possible like us Wa boys and girls have through this site or others and simply just go for a fish. Regards Geoff Picture: all these guys didn't know each other untill we all got togethor off this site and went away to Walpole for the Weekend, best weekend away a lot of us ever had

Billy,
Check out the ANSA (Australian National Sportfishing Website) and look for an ANSA club in your area. Most of the guys are usually into catch and release/lure fishing. I'm sure you'll find a few bream spinners too, being near the Parra Rv. Hope this helps, Rigzz |

Riggz,
I was a member of ANSA a long time ago but if you read Geoff P reply above, I pretty much got out of it for those reasons and also that unfortunately cheating used to run riot in the club and also throughout the tournaments I used to fish. Shame really, Aqua H

Aqua,
Yeah I know what you mean. I drift in and out of ANSA depending on where I'm living at the time. The last club I was in (which shall remain nameless) was a seething quagmire of petty politics, irrational jealousies and cliques. And they wondered why they could never keep new members ! That is one advantage of the Bream Master approach ie. people with a common interest keeping in touch without all the bollocks that clubs sometimes engender. Cheers, Rigzz |

Aquaholic
I have been a member of St George Sportfishing Club since I was around 12 or 13 (Close enough to 35 now). It is an ANSA club and is sometimes more socially than piscatorially(?) focused, but a great bunch of people regardless. I would like to be more involved myself, but shift work always seems to coincide with club events. Meetings are the 1st Tuesday of every month at St George Masonic Club and I know of a few members already involved in the bream spinning side of things. I am looking for someone fairly local to fish with myself. I live in the Eastern suburbs and want to try and find more time to get out and fish. Have had a bit of time around your area with mixed success. Also think the learning curve is alot higher when you have a regular group. As I mentioned I do shift work though, so even though I get 4 day weekends, I tend to work alot of overtime and only about 3 out of 8 involve whole Saturdays and Sundays. Cheers Hammerhead |
