I'm going for the 35 and think they absolutely rock

My only concern was the pixel count compared to a Lowrance X-87 (240x240: 320x320) but had my mind changed when I saw one on operation - the 90 degree transducer is a ripper.......

Also, the Humminbird has 500Watts RMS of grunt, with the Lowrance around 200.....

Hope this helps

Cheers,

lowrance.

i dont think you can beat lowrance.
dont himminbird show up a fish for every reading the sounder picks up,, could be a large jelly fish,, still dosnt identify it,,
lowrance show's you arches and have been for years ,
i would be getting a lowrance,, im happy with my lowrance and wouldnt get any thing else
thats my 2 cents
cheers dan

Dan, here's a couple of points straight from the Humminbird site that may make you change your mind

Quote:
New Sonar Echo Enhancementâ„¢ Technology combines a highly sensitive sonar receiver, a high technology transmitter to precisely control the sonar pulse and our exclusive sonar processing software. This combination of hardware and software gives the Matrix Fishing System the capability to reveal extremely faint sonar returns with very high resolution. For example, SEE Technology has the sensitivity to clearly show a BB (from a toy gun) to a depth of over 40 feet! Plus, the precisely controlled sonar pulse width provides the ability to detect targets as close as only 2 1/2" inches apart.
Quote:
For the advanced angler that prefers to see "fish arches" instead of fish symbols, TruArch Technology provides the wide degree sonar coverage with high sensitivity needed to show fish arches. TruArch Technology is a benefit of DualBeamPLUS sonar which utilizes a very wide 60 degree beam. Arches appear on the display as an object moves through the sonar beam. Due to the transducer beam angle, the distance to the object decreases as the object moves into the beam, and then increases as it moves out again. When this distance change is graphed on the display a "Fish Arch" appears.
Quote:
With new Selective FishID+â„¢, the Matrix Fishing System uses advanced processing to analyze sonar returns from the water to identify likely fish targets. Developed by studying sonar reflections from fish, Humminbird unique technology looks at the sonar return for subtle clues that make fish echos unique. Unlike some Fish ID systems, only after strict criteria are met does a sonar echo become tagged with a fish symbol. Fish ID technology is never perfectly accurate (Humminbird or Anyone Else), so Selective Fish ID+ shows the actual sonar return below the fish symbol so you can make the final judgement based on all the information on the display.
The picture that accompanies the Selective fish I.D. quote is below...

The 35 has a 90 degree transducer and tells you if fish are left, right, or under the boat - a couple of very, very well known Bass fisherman have been using this unit to effectively walk to a point on the boat and drop a jig to a fish that has appeared on the sounder - this unit is 'da bomb

Cheers,

legend 3005 deep

If you are going to spend $1000 on a Humminbird why not save up another $300 and get a great sounder with no fishsymbol/arch gimicks and give you rigididge feedback to pick the mood/size/number/dentsity/food type etc. etc. etc. of the fish. It'll do everything but catch them for you. The increased power Dave mentions helps seperate individual fish so if thats what you want and you want a lowrance then go the X-9? over the X-87.

That said,

Everytime I get ready to right Humminbird off and go lowrance they do a little more to keep you asking more questions and keep you just a little more confused.

At the end of the day aske more questions and be comfortable with your understanding of the answers.

Simon.
