25Hp Evinrude-Johnson
Hi fellas,
i am currently looking at buying a 25hp for my boat (12ft v-punt) 3 motors have caught my eye. one is an late 80's evinrude that is in very good condition i am wondering if it would still be ok it is $1275 which i know is a rip off. number two is a late 90's evinrude that has quite a few problems and is only $500. number 3 is a perfect condition late 90's johnson the dealership was unsure of the price but it is a long shaft i need a shorty. What are your opinions??? cheers, get_reel |

thanks carragant, well the newest motor has problems such as the spark plugs were left out and the thread and the power head corroded. i also was just informed that the 1989 evinrude has only 10 hrs on it although i am unsure if i believe it

My suggestion is along those lines (later model the better) but I wouldn't touch any of these. The evinrude is way way overpriced, the late 90's one - too many dramas and $'s to sort out and the johnson is long shaft.
Bottom line keep looking and save a few more dollars and get the youngest model you can and hopefully one that has a good service history and been well looked after (flushed etc). BTW I've had quite a few Johnson and Evinrude motors in various sizes 6, 9.9, 15, 20 etc over the years and they have all been excellent in terms of reliability. Also the 1989 model might have only 10 hours on it but that means it's been sitting idle for 160,000+ hours. O/B's will last longer if they are run on a regular basis. HTH

Thanks stu 000,
i thought that was the case in terms of motors being run on a regular basis. I have also found 3 yamahas only an hours drive from were i live with an 01' model sounding good at $1300. |
