my mate up the road has a symetere 4000 and that hasnt played up for him smoooth drag 4 ball bearings which is good, and your 1000 model that u want can hold a hell of alot of line. ratio is fast might be a bit quick for bream but it should do the job still. i reckon it is a great reel.

i agree with michael the shimano symetre 1000 is an excellent little reel and it will hold stacks of that 4lb braid. i have never used a stella rod but i here very good things. have you looked at the shimano stradic 1000 it is similar to the symetre, but it has 5 bearings and also has i high ratio and i think it is a bit more $$$, one of my mates has 4 of each size(he is a shimano dealer, and he also has a big family), he loves em. but if you dont want to spend much money, diawa have a great range of little 1500size reels that perform very well and wont break the bank.
Some reccomendation:

diawa caprice 1500 3 ball bearings $115
diawa capricorn 1500 4 ball bearings $150
the tica reels also have a very good selection

sorry i must sound like i am trying to talk u out of the symetre , they are a very good little reel and they are definately in the top 5 shimano spin reels!

cheers Matt

shimano gear

Gday Kahuna,

I recently bought a new outfit..the rod is the Stella 6'6" and its great I love it. I looked at the symetre, but eventually bought a Stradic 2000 I dont regret this decision...just wind the 2 reels and you will see the diference. I went for the 2000 because I wanted to fish 6lb fireline and target flatty's a bit so I was looking for the little extra line capacity. I even prefer the way the rod balances with the 2000. some might think its a little butt heavy but I reckon it suits me.

The symetre is a great reel and if its more suited to your budget than the stradic then go for it.
Another worthy or consideration are the Okuhma (maybe bad spelling there) Dave and many others here love them and they are pretty good value for money too

Hope this helps.

Simmo
