Black Diamond self repair.

OK, I've mentioned before how my BD CC 6'6" 1-3kg is broken, and I plan to repair it myself (and with the help of a few mates) in the near future. So I'm just going to go over it in detail so you guys can point out any rights or wrongs. OK.

The BD is crushed around half way across the blank and literally just below the tip piece where it joins. If I press the top piece down really hard it just starts to cover the crush line. There is some putty or clogging material on the bottom piece. Is the blank hollow? And how can I remove the putty?

I was thinking of putting a small piece of dowel into the blank along the crush line, and then putting the top piece on and epoxying over it (neatly) to make it a one piece and hopefully strengthen the breakage line. I hope this will make that crush line strong enough to withstand loading up (I plan running 3lb crystal on it if the repair is a success).

My previous plan was to cut off the top of the bottom piece and make it a bit shorter, thin the blank so I can fit the top piece over it just enough so I can them bind and epoxy it making it a one piece.

I will try to post up some pictures tomorrow to help. I will also fill you in on any questions in case I've missed any important details.

Any advice welcome, I want to repair the rod myself as I have no money, and I realize that as soon I touch the blank I void all warranty issues.

Hopefully Cindy or other rod builders/repairers can help me?

Alex

Hi Fisherman,

I have an idea that may help but send me an email on info@blackdiamondrods.com

I will tell you that what you are proposing won't work.

Cheers,
Cindy
