I am fishing with a Biomaster 1000 (regular spool) at the moment. Very smooth, good line lay. Comes with washers to adjust line lay profile too. Good drag range, waterproof drag, fairly high top end setting too. I've handled barra, jacks and trevs on mine.
The 1000S just has less line capacity, and the bearing support in the spool sits higher (better for light drag settings). It's a bloody good reel. Double handle available from Shimano Japan as well (Plat), but the Spirex 1000RE handle (US) will fit, as will the Stradic 1000FB handle (UK). Both are double paddle handles with cutouts in the shank. Stradic one has bearing supported knobs too. I'm thinking about getting one for my Biomaster. |

I use 3 biomasters 2 x 1000 and a 2000 think they are awesome. For the price they usually are you cant go wrong.

I reckon they are better, not sure where you can them from in Aus though, I wouldnt pay anymore than a stradic and I reckon they are better by far.
cheers

I was thinking of getting a bigger biomaster for kings n stuff. Maybe the 6000-8000 size? Something that'll handle 20-30lb line with a fair bit of capacity. You can reguarly pick them up of eBay.

I run 30lb on my Sol 2500, but it lacks spool size as well. Have just replaced them with a stella 4000 and its DohDohDohDoh hot. Have an 8000 coming and i`ll cover so many bases its not funny, makes me look forward to my next trip away somewhere. Cheers

Well I'm looking for the equivalent of a 4500 size daiwa. I don't have the $$$ for a stella or something like that. My other option was a cappy 4500J. I need something tough and with a heap of guts. Unfortunately this is one time that I can't take the finesse approach and I need the heavy approach. There may be tuna and other pelagics amongst the kings, and when on the rocks I need some serious pulling power.
Maybe a Penn?

My Biomaster has been through hell and still works nicely. I believe you can only get them from overseas. Otherwise i have two 1000 Biomasters for sale $150 each

Richo; as long as it's listed as being made in Japan, it should be OK. If it isn't, you can always ask through a message on eBay.
What would you guys rate higher: Japanese made Shimano Biomaster 8000 or Daiwa Capricorn 4500J ??? I've found both on eBay for good prices.

Yeah just make sure they are the Jap ones. I couldnt say what one is better out of those two reels. I'd go the lightest with the heaviest drag - simple as that.
Ive been saving my pennies for quite a while so I can get Stellas for the bigger stuff, will soon have a 4000 8000 and 20000 in the stable. I seem to punish the cheaper reels to much for my liking (sol 2500 and bio 4000), one trip and they just aint the same reel. cheers

I just find them real smooth with a nice drag, i havnt used Stradics so I couldnt compare them honestly, except saying a mate had both reels and always used his Bio first.
