Bilge pumps

I have a 4m stessl and was wondering do i need a bilge pump and if so were do i put it.

You're better having one than not.

Aft section and lowest part of your hull next to the transom.

Should be able to rig something up for under $100. Pump, hose, hull fittings, wiring /switch..

You need a bucket or a bilge pump.
But a bucket isn't much good if you have decking.
Also a good idea to have an auto float switch becuuse
the boat could be half full before you know you have a
problem.
Great if you forget to put your bungs in ,not that anyone
has done that before.

tim if u have a live well,
u best to have a auto bilge pump.
u wont know how much water splashes out
the live well and u wont know how much water will be in your boat if too busy fishing, the auto bilge pump will look after you
by keeping as much water out your boat,

Hey guys,

Thanks for the advice, now were do i mount it i now mitch said aft section and lowest part of the hull near the transom. But what does aft section mean. Any help greatly appreciated as i might do it this weekend. Were do i have the flow from the bilge going?

I posted a photo of mine for someone a whilst ago but I must have deleted it. If I get the time, I will try and take a photo for you, no promises though as I'm rather busy. You're SOR which is a hike though otherwise you're welcome to come check out mine, I'm SOR.

And as far as I'm concerned bilge pump is a must indeed like as said with decks, one doesn't know if water is below. When I first got the boat, I had an incident. The hose to the motor splash well accidently came off and the hose was fluttering around down the hull bringing in a heap of water. Thank God at the time, Ben was training me on how to use the boat and he was in the drivers position. Being a bloke born in the water environment he seemed to have some extra sensory and heard water running. I also have a port inspection hole (gives you a slight bird's eye view of what's happening below and part access to my battery) which we opened and thus saw water coming in. Without the bilge pump we wouldn't have been able to get the water out. I highly recommend a bilge pump and even a port inspection hole.

the best spot to put the bilge pump is on the back inside your boat next to the transom but put it in the middle where the rim is, cos of that its the lowest point that will get most of the water out, and for the exit hole where the hose connects to, best to locate that on the side of the motor BUT ABOVE the level where your motor is bolted on, dont put the hole too high up cos it will slow the water flow comming out, the reason just above the level where your motor goes, cos for the maxum out put water flow and no water will come in the hole other wise if it does , hell lot more water will come in your boat where your motor is bolted on, cos the exit hole for the bilge is higher than the transom level where motor is bolted on, if i can get a photo, i wouldnt mind show you my boat, i have 2 exit holes on both side of the motor cos i have 2 x 1250 gal bilge pumps, i use 2 high flow pumps cos i go fishing more 5 km offshore.
