Rod holders - where? on Sit in

Where do you guys suggest putting rod holders? in front is better while fishing but what about when you paddle where do you place them then?

do you leave them in the holders when you paddle or tie them down or what?

just what to have all the fishing idea's / experiance before i drill holes into it

(kayak is perception Acardia)

G'day Sandworm

On my sit in(minnow) I've got 2 berkley holders on a stainless bracket in front of me.
The reason I use the bracket is to give me enough room(height) to tilt/turn the holders in various positions(for trolling mostly).
The important thing is to have them far enough forward so as not to get in your road when you paddle. It took me a little bit of experimentation to find a happy medium where the holders were not in my road paddling, high enough to allow variable rod positions yet still within reach....

Rod Holders

Sandworm,
Check out the link below. The Acadia was my first kayak and I decked it out totally for fishing (rod holders included). You can see I had two different trolling rod holders (front and rear) when your paddling just turn the holder so the rod points directly out in front. Only problem I found was if your in snag country your rod can get caught up in branches etc.
Hope this helps.

Sandworm, go to the link again, and click on each picture, and then maximise the windows. It takes you through in good detail some of the mods and additions for each of the kayaks. A nice site, and a couple of well set up kayaks!

Rod holders

Sandworm,
Chris is on the money with his post. There are a number of photo's some close ups for your info. How did I find the Acadia for fishing? It was great for fishing but not for the heat and humidity of Qld. The Acadia proved itself in some fierce weather also so I highly recommend it. As I say the only draw back was that in summer it was like sitting in a sauna thus the switch to a SOT (Sit On Top). The Acadia is very stable and fast, I toyed with some foam bulkheads just behind the the seat so I could sit outside the cockpit to fish but I never got to perfect it as I sold it shortly after. I also had a bit of trouble getting in and out of it if there was unstable footing but thats probably due to my lack of felxability. I also went to the chandlery store and got some clips which meant I could clip the paddle to the side of the kayak to get it out the way. If you use some of the larger plastic tackle packs they will slide nicely in beside the seat. I used some marine carpet around them to make sure they stayed put.
Let me know if you need any more info.
Regards
Gavin

I see the close ups but was unable to enlarge them, I see you had one holder infront and one behind tot he right (maybe a second behind to the left?)

I intent to have one for bait and lure fish with my other rod and maybe fly fish other times.

These holders i guess will also hold the rods while i paddle, and maybe troll with them.

(not asking much am i)

Can you explain a bit more how you help your paddle?

I dont want to drill any holes untill i'm sure where things should go

thanks
(going out on sat for the paddle to get a feel where things should sit

Paddle Holder

Sandworm,
Go to a good marine supplies shop such as Whitworths and have a looksee at the 'U Clip' or 'Tube Clip' range. I used two black clips about 5cm long and screwed them to the deck so the paddle sat snug against the kayak. The best way to do it is to put the clips on the paddle and adjust them till they're flat against the hull and the paddle sits in a position you're happy with.
Good Luck
Gavin
