Daiwa TD-S 1500/2000

g'day all,

looking to buy a td-s 1500/2000 soon and was woundering if anybody has had any prob's with them ....besides the cost.....might buy a capricorn instead!!!???

can anybody think of another spin reel for the $300 to $500 mark????

just want sumthing very smooth (how much is the TD-Z$$$)

The TD-S is gone from the current Aust range.
It now runs:
TD-Z, Capricorn, Laguna, and other lower models.

Capricorn or Laguna seem to be a good choice, no-one here complains about them. Kris has a Capricorn and says it's good, I and some others have a Laguna and think they are good.

Get a new Shimano Sustain 1000FD. AWESOME reels!

not a hug fan of shimano reels, there ok but i like daiwa

a worm driven reel is smooth but it is more likely to faulter ( i could be wrong!) but i have used both extensively (except shimano baitrunners they are a serious bit of gear), and prefer daiwa

try the shimano ultegra for $299.95 or better if you can find it, ive been using one and they re great, light, good retrieve ratio, good winding and drag, cant say a bad word about them, also made in japan.

I am not sure I agree with PW of Geelong - that no one here complains about Daiwa.

After my on line complaints about Daiwa Kastor I had a number of shy people send me their complaints directly.

To Daiwa's credit they have helped one of these people after I brought it to their attention. This guy had waited 8 to 10 weeks for a spare spool.

My conclusions are that the Capricorn and upwards range may be good products. Below that they are not a good match with fireline. There own advertising calls the airbail (only on Capricorn and above) as braid friendly. I now interpret this as anything less than Capricorn as braid "antagonistic". (unfriendly)

After sales service is also key.

3 separate retailers in Brisbane seemed genuinely agitated when talking about Daiwa. One even dropped them from their range because of service problems.

My own experience in dealing with Daiwa service was disastrous. Stating they hard parts when they did not (3 times). Saying they had not received my cheque when later they return it, making appointments for me to see the local rep - but not telling him. It went on for weeks.

I have also had service issues with Shimano - but the help I got there was absolutely 5 star - and with genuine concern.

So don't consider just the price and product - service is what separates good companies from the poor ones.

Hi all,
Without buying into the whole Daiwa vs. Shimano debate, I would like to say that if I was paying anything above $250+ I would expect it to be a pretty serious bit of machinery ,regardless of brand.

I have owned a little Capricorn 1500 for about a year now,and I love it.I've caught plenty of fish that really worked the drag and I can't fault it , I've also hooked up the girlfriend and got her to make a few runs round the flat when its been miserable weather A little gear noise on occasion is about it. I am also looking at upgrading to the TD-S 1500 in a month or so.(if all goes to plan)

I run 6lb Fireline on one spool and 1.8kg "Trilene" mono from the other and rarely get any probs with line catching ect.
All in all I'm very happy with the reel,but I will definately agree with Gary that its how the company treats its after sales problems that makes a HUGE difference.I'm considering a service on the reel soon ,but am a little wary after reading Daiwa's Servicing could be a nightmare

It is amazing to read the different opinions on gear and service, of course service is what makes or breaks a Company, I recently put my Laguna together after a service, put a couple of parts in back to front and packed with grease, it didn't work, so I took it to Campbells, they stripped and serviced it properly and smacked my hand, they replaced the parts the right way, ( they couldn't repair them) and $60 later I am fishing again, it was an expensive lesson for me but a good one, I love my Laguna and I take it to bed with me sometimes and whisper to it, it has caught a heap of fish and has never missed a beat, did I say I love it ?? Oh yeah I did... Nev/

Drew getting back to your original post the Team daiwa is a world class reel ,l have many close freinds that use them and love them to death they still are available in alot of stores and with indent orders with daiwa all stores can get their hands on them..

So yes they are are great reel,even with a price tag somewhere just under $400..send me a PM if you need help in getting yourself one.

The TD-z spin reel again is hard to beat it would sit along side the stella and it also has a nice price tag of $800 ish....

I've a Daiwa Samurai 7i with 6lb fireline on it and have had no issues whatsoever and it set me back a whopping $80.
I had a Regal Z ($130) for years and no problems there either.

This is just my experience, I'm happy to buy Daiwa reels. When a company produces thousands of a particular product there are bound to be a few duds. Maybe that's what has happened.
