how to rig a cray softie

i have been trying to look on the site, how to rig up a cray softplastic could anyone give me a tip on how to do it and a pic would help.thanks michael

Use a Gamakatsu G Lock or similar offset worm hook, push the point vertically through the tail, near the end (about 4 mm from the end), then push the tail down the shank of the hook about halfway. Push the point through the head/body of the cray, again about 3 or 4 mm from the end. If you have chosen the hook size properly the tail will slip over the offset part under the eye of the hook and lock there, while the head/body will slip up and lay alongside the point. Use a splitshot about 200 - 400 mm up the leader from the hook as the weight.

On the 1.5" crays a size 4 hook is about the right size.

This method of rigging is like a "texposed" worm rig, I think a normal "texas" rig would work too if you intended retreiving the rig through weeds, etc. Sorry I can't find a pic for you.

yep!! but it wont be weedless and try to keep the weight down....yabbies dont tend to drop like a stone naturally

OK here we go with some pics:

The components are an Atomic 1.5: Baby Craw (Gold Glitter) and a Mustad Mega Bite (37177NPBLN) Size 4

Step 1 is to push the hook point down through the tail from the top side of the cray. I put it through the last segment of the tail.

Step 2 is to push the hook point back through the cray from underneath, I put it back through at the front of the head.

Step 3 is to slide the tail up onto the offset part of the hook shank under the eye, and make sure the point lays back along the top of the body.

Here is another view of the rigged cray, the main shank and bend of the hook lay under the cray and act as a weighted keel to stop it spinning, the whole deal just flutters down gently.

The worm hooks are big for their stated size. The Gamakatsu Extra Wide Gape are enormous :-)
