Another Alternative... the 'elegant' boat...

Hi all,

I've just come back from the Sydney Fishing Tackle Show, and was reminded of something I've been meaning to post for a while.

If you're in the market for an 'outside the square' Bream boat, have a serious look at Elegant Boats:

Raffi (the guy who makes them) will custom build them for you to your needs.

I've had a good look at two of his boats now (his personal one, and the one he had at the show) and am very impressed - enough to make me seriously re-think the 'Stessl Stinger' idea.

They are a very quick hull, just ask for some performance figures

If you're interested, you'll be very stunned at the prices for a complete package - at least $3000 or $4000 cheaper than the equivalent Hornet, and the price includes the electic outboard......

And in case you're wondering I have absolutely no association with this company, I just reckon the boats are $hit hot

geez there a work of art mate. Nice shots on the website and from what you can see in the photo they look like a cross between a hornet and a Stessl. Now if I can just figure out how to raise the funds...hmmmm

Not wrong J.P. - they only draw about 20cm of water fully loaded as well, great for skating the shallows, or over oyster racks

It's very hard to describe the hull shape, sort of like an Edgetracker rear, blending to a Hornetish front, hence the reason they're quick - they trap a lot of air underneath, providing plenty of lift.

You can sort of see it in the pic below, and it's also the reason there seems to be a more than average amount of freeboard, the hull goes up and then comes back down, whereas conventional boats just keep going up.

I did Evan, for a fully kitted out tiller steer 4.1m (including plumbed 90L livewell, seats, Minn Kota 55 AP sounder, electric outboard, batteries, 40hp 2 stroke, rod rack, storage, carpet everywhere, underfloor tank, lights, switch panel, quality trailer, etc, etc, etc......) you're looking around the 17-K mark, fully registered, ready to fish. You'd have to see the boat to truly appreciate it.

Wow, they are sweet looking boats. Looks like they'd be able to handle a bit of inshore work as well for longtails, salmon etc. Versatile boats for the price.

The best bit would be the ability to build your own boat with someone who knows what they are talking about (as opposed to a lot of boat dealers these days )

G'day Dave, i was looking at that site last week and id seriously consider one of the plate boats if i had the money and needed a new boat... the overall look and design is amazing.. they look like they have a nice solid deep side with a perfect front end for cutting into chop and swell if your outside.. while still being balanced and perfect for lure and flyfishing... id probably get one with a side console tho.. i hate tiller steer..those boats if they got out there could probably take Quintrex on and give them a run for there money.. especially for those in the budget price range and seriously want to get into bream fishing..

They are an awesome looking boat. Nearly double the price though!!! I suppose you get what you pay for though!!!

I don't know about that mate One of the 'Balance' Hornets, a 4m model, with the same sort of fitout and only a 30 on the back - also tiller steer - starts around 13K, that's with nothing else included.
By the time you add all the electronics and 'special' bits and pieces that Raffi puts on his boats, you are rapidly approaching 17K+, probably 19 or so if you want the bigger motor.. oops you can't, the Hornet's only rated to 30 Whereas Raffi's 4.1 will take a 50 Do the maths on how quick that would go.....

I was talking about the prices for the hulls that are stated on the site. The plate metal hulls cost a fair bit more than the others, on the site. Having said that, they are incredibly cheap.
Compared to the hornets and others, i'll take your word for it that they are a lot cheaper, as i have no idea of the hornets price.
