Tell ya my honest verdict in about a month. Getting one to use when stunt fishing (UL for biggies).

By all reports they are excellent reels. Good drag, solid drive system, plus they look pretty good. Bearings are supposedly double shielded corrosion resistant SS, and with 9 in total, including the IAR/roller bearing, it should be pretty smooth as well.

Mine Died.

In the first 2 months it started seizing but just needed to be dismanteled to be fixed. This was slowed down with regular inox top ups. Then the anti Reverse went on it which the seven year warrenty wouldnt cover and then the bail arm broke. Bluewater said that the warrenty is very difficult to deal with and that Pfluger said I must have used it too hard and not to bring it back. They gave me the part for the bail and told me to fit it which wasnt as easy as they made out.

I am still to go back to them again as the anti reverse wasnt fixed after it was taken for 6 weeks and the cork rotted.

Other than that it was a good reel but look after it and dont count on the warrenty.

Jeez Ben, that doesn't sound good.
Gotta ask what size you were using, and what the hell for to do so much damage.

To be honest you're the first person with a bad report on these reels. Broken bail, rotted handle knob, buggered antireverse, seizing gearing/bearings.

Hope mine won't be anything like that at all.

Ted..

As i say other people said theirs were great and i did sort of hammer it after it packed it in, the reel handle didnt rot, it was the rod.

It was a smoothy reel and reeled well and other than the antireverse it still does.
it took some hard ocean sessions getting pounded by salt and no rust.

dont let me scare you and i was considering getting another one in a small size to look after.

Ever used one angler? What do you run?

I see I may have been right Ben. Was wondering what cork was on the reel. I'm guessing it was part of a combo. The cork on a lot of production rods these days is pretty crap, to say the least.

The smaller reels need a fair bit more TLC.

So I take it you used Ben's reel, which was far from new and first rate. I have reviews and recommendations, on the other hand, from fellas who've used them for 2 or more seasons in salt, the testers themselves, stateside and in Australia, and Pflueger's rep.

Know who's info I'm backing my choice on....

Yeah dubican, Thanks for the advice. I just bought a stradic 1000 but im after a new rod now.

I agree shortlite, i had great reviews but the biggest problem as bluewater pointed out was the difficult warrenty.

I got one as part of a combo in a 3000 equivlant size a couple of years ago - it lasted one season in Gove. A combination of Trevors, Queenies and Tuna took it's toll on the drag and bearings. I was fairly satisfied with it's performance though i feel there is a design fault in the bearing assembly around the drive - water got in there via the drag nut too easily. You had to dismantle and clean it after EVERY session or the bearings would suffer. Daiwa Lagunas, Penns and Okumas that i've had since haven't had this problem. That said, the rod part of the combo is still going strong.
