Luvias, Sol or Caldia Kix?

O.k. I'm in the market for a new reel (1000-2000 size)and Daiwa has got my vote however I don't know which one to choose. Any info on the above three reels and why or why not I should choose a particular reel would be appreciated.

Also I will be using it in saltwater always so for me this is a big factor. Are they all saltwater safe or should I be looking elsewhere? Look forward to you replies. (Tim you seem to be the man who knows alot so I especially would like to hear from you on this one thanks.)

Regards Dave

p.s. I'm prepared to listen to the Shimano debate if you can supply a legit reason.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

Nath you say

............Why? I know it costs more, but thats not the point.

I need answers like "this one is better because and I don't like such and such about this one and the orange colour is crap etc." What I'm trying to say is I'm after comparisons and why one is better than the next not purely based on the $. (I'm not saying thats what you mean Nath I would just like a reason)

Eddy you had a good point about the spare spool. I know the Kix doesn't. Does the Luvias? Once again keep the answers coming.

Regards Dave

Dave,

The luvias does not come with a spare spool and will set you back close to $100 I got one cheap For $90 lol

I can't compare the reels you have mentioned as i only have a luvias....

I can compare a luvias and a capricorn and the difference is staggering

The luvias hardly ever has issues with line and the drag is very smooth...

Basically you will likely get what you pay for

I'm tempted to get a sol but mainly due to the extra spool...

The luvias 1500 weighs 215g ....I think the other two weigh something like 235g??

Thought that would be the case. I like the comparison to the capricorn, thats the type of thing I'm after. I think I need someone who has or has used them all or atleast a couple of them. (Tim you know you want to comment........go on!)

Can't believe none of the shimano boys have posted yet!!!
A comparison to a sustain (or even a stradic) would be acceptable and obviously the reason(s) behind the comment(s) too.

Regards Dave

Daiwa is tough to beat plain and simple!!

I have looked at the certates and considered them but i keep asking myself: "what will they do that my luvias can't?"

The line lie could not really be any better so maybe the drag is a little smoother.....

As for sustains.....I know of one person who had "a couple" of issues and needless to say he now uses daiwa

I'm sure either of the 3 will all do the job required. I spend countless hours on the water and i can't recall ONE SINGLE fireline tangle that had to be cut/snapped on my luvias's.....

Just buy all 3 and see which is best

i brought my 2000 sol about a month ago, used it only a couple of times so far but gee its nice, i was tossing up on either the sol or kix, sol did it for me 1 more crbb over the kix and the alloy spare spool which is a major bonus! i have 4lb fireline on one and 8lb XDS on the other for pinkies etc etc.
being washable is a major bonus and the 5year dawia warranty is another

For $330 bucks rrp they are an awsome reel with a really nice drag.

well there ya go thats my pick of the litter,
2000 sol is the sh!t

The thought had crossed my mind, but I would get my arse kicked by the wife. And when I suggested that I should just buy one of the new Exist reels instead, she just laughed and walked away. (thats a no)

I don't really want a shimano anyway I thought I would tease them with the thought that I may be swayed to the dark side. ( been there done that, needless to say I'm looking for something reasonable now)

In shimano's defense the reels were at the cheaper end of the scale (still better than my Samurai the POS) I know they can make some good stuff I own a couple of Chronarchs. It's just Daiwa spin stuff in the $300+ range seems to be in a league of it's own.

I'm thinking the Sol too. I just need to get my head around the fact that it's bloody ORANGE!!!!

The spare spool is a nice touch. It is just amazing that they don't put a spare with all of them.

Breaming_season how does it seem to be handling the salt?

Regards Dave

Everyone has there choice in what reels they buy..Sometimes one cannot aford to pay big bucks for a reel so look around theres some really good cheapo's out there..I have 6 reels here and there all shimano's 2500 and iv'e had one for 3 years and it hasent let me down yet ..I find the more you use them the better they get ..Iv'e caught 17 lb jewies on it plus heaps of snapper around the 2 kilo mark..Dosent matter what reel you use but always look after them and give them a good service at least once a month treat them like a female you look after them they will look after you...

cheers steve
