Probaly the Samurai is your best bet, it comes with a spare spool. Not sure th Caprice does. Might be wrong. Plus the Samurai would be smoother with more bearings.

I was going to say pretty much what Drewy said.. Good and Under $100 don't quite go together when talking about Daiwa reels. The samurai from all accounts may be a good short term (some say very very short term) solution as they may have 7 bearings, but they're crap bearings and will rust quite easily. the Hardbodyz range (Caprice at the low end to the Advantage or I believe its now the Sol) is ok in terms of smoothness and durability but they're somewhat hevay and start just over the $100 mark to $300. If you want something that will not only feel great and last you a long time while maintaining that smoothness, best to save the extra and get something better. You really do get what you pay for.

Not being a whinger here guys, but why do people feel the need to not answer questions and put someone down. If someone asks for the best reel in a $100 range we should help them and give him some advice, obvioulsy the reels will be of lesser quality im sure they know that without someone saying "you wont get anything good for that save up and get a luvias or something" i mean are you serious?? the budget was $100 a luvias is over $300, What if there young and been saving up ages to get $100. Not all of us can afford expensive top shelf reels. Some have to settle for second or third best. And if they ask whats the best reel for the budget they have we should help them, not say go save up more, and you wont get anything good for that price, and then listing as many bad points on the reel i suggested. How rude is that, cmon guys answer the questions and stick to the subject. Afterall thats what this site is about isnt it. Once again not having a go at anyone i just believe answer a question with a direct answer dont confuse somebody. JMO

and l think we did give the best advice possible m8. Daiwa just don't make reels at a high standard for under $100. l actually have a couple and l regret buying them, as they just plain suck.

I dont think any company would make a good reel for under $100. Daiwa do make ones for under a $100 though and thats what he asked. What Daiwa reel is the best for under $100 imo its the Samurai. Its not the best out of all Daiwa reels, but thats not what the thread asked. Theres 2 Daiwa reels i found under $100, Samurai and Caprice. Samurai has more bearings and spare spool, so thats the best Daiwa reel under $100 imo. Somebody that cant afford a decent reel would most likely appreciate a reel under $100 and be quite happy with it.

Since when did number of bearings make or break a reel?

Think quality not quantity.

And yes I have a Samuria and it plain sucks.

The sub $100 Daiwa's are okay in the short run, but they have cheaper components and will not give the same performance down the line. I have to say Shimano is pretty much the same situation, although their P3 series (Slade, Nexave, Alivio) are OK.

Are you looking specifically at Daiwa only? There are other manufacturers out there that do offer good, cheaper reels. Abu Garcia spring to mind: their new C300 Cardinal series should be around the 100 dollar mark. From first looks they have improved heaps.

Also look overseas. Ebay is notorious for offering overseas manufacturers models at much reduced prices. Quantums, overseas Shimanos and Daiwas, Okuma, etc.

Now, from Daiwa is coming the Regal Xi series. Already selling well in the States, and soon to come to Oz. US retail price is US$40, so you may well be looking at something around the AU$ 100 mark.
