my mate lent me a baby vibe to use for a day. i didn't get much success, just blowies. i used other lures and caught bream but once the baby vibe was tied on it was useless.
can anyone give me some good techniques that have worked for them consistently help would be great

Just let them sink to the depth ya want, then basically just let them sit there, give a couple of jerks up every now and then and let them sink again. Bream usually hit them on the drop. A few twitches here and there a couple of jerks upwards thats about it, ya gotta be patient with vibes and be real slow. To fast and they wont work, slow, slow ,slow is the key.

vibes are a very effective bream lure squidgyman said the basic retreive but when hopping the vibes dont do it in an irtatic jump or flick because if a bream is following that vibe and it sundenly makes a load ratteling sound the fish will run away.
there are different styles to fishing the vibes because u cannot catch fish off pielons if your vibe is along the bottom. the best way to get them from mid water is to bomb the lure up a jetty or past a pilon and then let it sink to about mid water and start lifting your rod slowly so the vibe can climb the water then drop your rod and wind the slack u will find the fish will take the lure when the line is slack so watch to see if the lure stops its decent as that will be when a fish is testing it as food if you dont strike they will spit it as they will know it isnt food and it is very hard for that same fish to take it again. hope that helps your vibe fishing

How quickly do the vibes sink?

They aren't a quick sinker, which is why they are so good to use. In places where the current is quicker, I usually cast a lot further out and let it drift back in. Using small rips to get the action going has worked best for me and accounted for some good fish.

If you rip them hard the bream wont take em, just letting them sink is enough to give them an enticing action towards a bream, plus short slow upward twitches every now and then and thats about it. Let the current and the sinking action do the work. You will be surprised how many hits and takes you get when the lure is sitting still just moving with the sea and current.

What rod do you use Crabby? The only reason I ask is that I feel quite a bit of vibration with vibes. The whole reason of using small rips is to get the vibration through the water. They may not feel like a bigger vibe, but they're a fair bit smaller.

Hmmmm
I remember the Rattlin' Rapala #4 did similar things on moderate retrieves. It really took fast retrieves or hard rips to get the vibes going where you felt it in the rod. Slower paces didn't get it swimming and there was pretty much no noise.
Are you telling me that these little babies will wiggle and rattle while just drifting. I find that kinda hard to believe. Fixed the RNR 4's by "opening" the scoop on the head to offer more surface and a wider scoop. Involved scraping off some paint and careful sanding and repainting, but this brought out the advertised action on slow retrieves. |

Slow and Steady
Yeah I agree with Squidgee Man, I use the Vibes all the time and although only relitively new in this game, I have founf them super effective particularly round pylons. Find that if you do as Bear said in let it drift by, they usually get hit immediately, without working them at all. If I dont get a touch I let it sink and work it back with a few upward lifts away from the snag / pylon and they will tend to hit on either the first lift or when you dead stick.
I luv em |

Do you guys snag vibes up much jigging them close to the bottom or structure? Is there a technique to avoid the snags?

I only have the rear treble on my vibes so that helps, plus i squash down the barbs. Also Hooked showed me a good method for unsnagging.
If you feel that your about to get snagged dont tighten the line anymore. Just take up the slack till you feel slight tension and grab the line just above the reel in your thumb and forefinger pull it up and then let it go. That will send enough of a vibration down your line to the jig or lure that usually is enough to free it. It does work if done correctly, as long as you havent dug the hook in too much. Hold a lure or jig in your fingers and get someone to do it, you will see how much of a vibration is sent down the line, its quite amazing. This technique has worked for me quite a few times now.
