Question removing trebles

i've lost a few lures over the past few weeks so have taken the front trebles off all my lures.52s,laser 45s,attacks etc seem to have no difference in action but sneakys seem to rise faster & back end first,i've even changed size of treble to 10 & 8s to try & slow them down and level them out but nothing seems to work.any ideas? i,m also missing a lot of hits more than i used to with removing trebles.is there a different technique that you use or is it just be persistant till you hook up?

Try putting a small splitshot over the ring where you removed the treble from, this helps it to sink again and keep it level.

There are some other posts in this forum about removing the centre treble. Have a look at them too

Cheers

Matty,
Lead wire is suposed to be good but I can't find any at all.
I have been talking to a bloke who is thinking of drilling small holes in the lures puting more lead in it a close it back up with fiberglass.

Fish hard

Matty,
I've actually been using the beading wire my wife has. It's heavier than the std stuff and works well as well as being coated so it's less prone to rust.

You can get rolls from Benjamins on Beauford st.

Go to a Dick Smiths store and they have lead solder in very small diameters right thru to thicker diameter. Though I found even the smallest lead strip to heavy and was detrimental to the lures action.

I tried a few days ago with an attack just putting three drops of araldite waiting between each one to dry over the split ring, the weight worked out perfect and its very smooth.

for lead wire, try a hardware shop or if your willing to pay a little more, a tackle shop that specializes in fly tying.

its a matter of getting the right gauge and the right amount of wire on the lure to make it balanced

I know this prolly wont help you guys, but this is what i've done with my home made lures.
I have made mine with no hook ring at the front, so mine naturally want to float tail up. (balsa).
I placed a slit down the bottom of the lure, from the rear hook ring to about half way. i filled this split with lead (i shaped it myself by melting) and filled it with arildite. The result is a slower rise and an even rise. No more tail up probs!
now to sort out my bib problems

I reckon i might knock off the front treble off my palaemons, then they'll get less snags and float tail down which is a less threatening pose, whaddya you guys reckon. Anyone tried it???

Maybe im jus to lazy to re weight it

I don`t remove any, more chance of a hook up in my opinion, and most of the time the middle treble will spin around and secure in the side, not nice but most of the time stops the lure being spat.

cheers

richo

with snags, as long as it is some sort of riser, you can steer it over most structure.... thats not to say I don`t do it at all, I do have a 52 which Ive removed the middle treble and put a certain sized and shaped split shot to make it a suspender.

I don`t have a digi camera, i`ll try and get a photo and post it, but just put a tiny split shot on where the front treble was - take the ring off to, will have to glue the split shot or it`ll come off, I first stuck 2 real small split shots from John Jones on and they worked well also.

cheers

I posted the answer some time back, Just put on a split ring.
Change size to achieve the effect you want.
