Best Reel for around $80-$140?

Hey guys, im looking to update my reel, either before or at the fishing show.Ive been looking at sedonas and saharas, but was recently shown a daiwa kastor and it didnt feel too bad. Any suggestions? thanks guys

The 1000 is 139.95 RRP.

I actually havent used them but the next model up the affinity. If they are as good as the affinity though i can recommend them. The only thing is they dont have the super slow worm drive that is suited for bream spinning- the affinity does and goes for $174.95 RRP- less if you find them on special.

I'd agree with Brad Y there. In that price range, the penn applause 1000 would be just about your best bet.

Shimano Sahara 1500.

The Shimano's have a slightly smaller body, but the reels weigh about the same.
The Shimano's sit higher up and closer to your fingers, and the upsweep makes it possible to use smaller guides on the rod.

Drag is very good. The newer, larger spools allow bigger washers, and the performance is smooth and very adjustable.

You should be able to get a Laguna for $139... If you go the Sahara, should should get some change from $140 for other stuff like Fireline or placcies. The other advantage the Shimano has on the Daiwas for that price is the lightness of Shimano reels compared to the the Hardbodyz. But the Daiwas may be more durable...

i have had a couple of reels under 150 dollers, the kaster and sumurai, and i would spend under 250 on a reel nowerdays. If i was you i would be looking for a 2nd hand 1500 or 2000 cappy, they will usually go for 100-150 bucks(2nd hand), has alot better features with airbail, etc etc post up a wanted thing in the classified section, see if anybody has a bit better quailty reel that they would be willing to go for a bit cheaper!

Depens on what model reel you buy Chung...

With daiwa I wouldn't realy be expecting too much from anything below a daiwa Samurai or something similar. Anything above that should be pretty good IMO.

I now use a stradic 1000 but that's beyond your price range. At the price you want to pay maybe get a Kastor for the meantime until you realy get into the sport and want something realy good or get something like a sedona/sahara...either one is good, preferably the Sahara as it is a tad more expensive.

Well yeah...seeing as Iv'e been through that stage of buying cheaper and nastier equipment like a daiwa samurai and a floppy 6ft procaster (not the best for plastics imo).
