Hi Guys,

Really need a boat tips section

My boat is once again at the welders, hopefully this one can patch it In my efforts to take the motor and leccy off I have found every bolt on the boat has become fossilised with rust.

Now I need to replace them all, due to them having a run in with a hacksaw and grinder. Whats best to replace them with? stainless/brass? And just pop down to bunnings? or is there somewhere better? I will also need to replace all bolts on the leccy, JOY!!!

any help would be gratefull

Hi Shane

Try to use Stainless steel nuts and bolts in 316 stainless if you can get them. Most bolt places will have a good stainless steel range. Hope this helps

As Rono said, 316 grade stainles is the way to go. Bunnings may not stock the ones you need, most good fasterner places will though.

Also, everywhere that stainless and alloy meet, cover the bolt / fastener in a product called Duralac. This will prevent electrolosys between dissimilar metals. There are other products available that do the same job, just cant think of their names right now, just make sure you use one of them.

Oh, and use nylock nuts for the outboard mounting bolts
