bending trebles

I experience my first bending hook syndrome on the weekend
my snap shads little silver hooks are great as they don't seem to rust easily and the lure ittself is my top bream catcher at the moment, but i was dissapointed with the number of bream i lost.

After losing a couple in a row i checked my trebles and they were bent all ouf of shape and the points of a couple had snapped off right at the tip
- I have a strong feeling that the snapped tips are directly contributing to the bending hooks as the more blunt the hook is the harder it will be to get through the fishes mouth and therefore all the pressure is going onto the point of the hook rather than the bend of the hook.
Am i right?
If so then how do i rectify this, I don't want to sacrifice size and thinkness for strength???

gday zimeric
owner make awesome little hooks that would be ok on your snap shad, i think they are called stingers (size 12 to 14 would be fine for the snap shad)
get some of those and youll be right, but be careful they are rediculously sharp
cheers luke

as luke said zimeric, owner make top hooks,im not sure if the snapshad is floating or sinking,or anyfacts for that matter,so-if it is a bigger suspending hb or sinker go owner stinger 36s#12,however if it is a smalliash lightweight suspending hb id go the stinger 11s#12,i personally wouldnt put on #14s as i find the hook-up rate decreases with such a small hook, hth.

that sounds good

i bought some #12 gama's recently and they are top notch trebles but they're a bit big for the snap shad , it has tiny hooks

they also rust very easily too.

Rust sucks! My hooks seem to rust after one trip and i knoe if u wash them air dry them and so on they will last longer but they still rust and for the amount of money u pay for the small trebles i'm sure there must be a way of stopping them rusting. However i don't work with metal and don't really have a clue so be nice to knoe anyways to stops trebles rusting.

I will echo that question

I was out last week using sp's and went to switch to a laser pro hb and the whole tray were seriously rusted, split rings and trebles and they have all been upgraded to owner stingers. It wont be a cheap excersise replacing them all ..... especially as I have been leaving the middle trebles on.

I have been washing them, is there anything else that can be done??

Nathaniel

As an after thought I have a huge box of jigs, never wash them at all and none of them are rusty ....... what gives???

Long Time Zim

Mate i got Bluewater in Melville to order in some 14 and 16 size Owner ST36c's, they will replace those rusty hooks your talking about and they are the best hook on the market as far as i am concerned.

Hey Becker

I used to do the same as you mentioned, like going through and replacing all the trebles on all the lures i use, but i found that they rust and get dull.
I only change the treb's on my lures as I need/use them, I may have half a dozen Lures done if i fish a Tournament but leaving the treb's sealed in their packets until you need them i have found to be the best practice.
Regards
Geoff R (Nee P)

Geoff yeah sounds like a good idea especially at $1 per treble, actually it's worth asking ..... is anyone getting owner stingers for less than $8 a pack??

hey guys
to answer beckers question i get owners for $6.50 a pack which is pretty reasonable i think. zimeric go for the size 14 owners as they are almost the same size as those on a snap shad and shouldnt sink it. i dont disagree with bream addict but i think if it came with tiny trebles you should replace the hooks with the same size other wise it could sink your lure and have an increased chance of fouling the hooks when you cast
cheers
luke

thanks for that luke, i put a single owner stinger 36#12 on the rear and leave the belly ring free, i reckon this way there is less snag-ups,and they still float.
