After a waterproof/shockproof digital Camera

My birthday us coming up and im after a new waterproof digital camera. Price range is around the $500 mark. Im interested in what you are using and if so could you post some pics of it in action

Hey mate, I have a lumixft2 (I think thats what it is....) thats waterproof to 10m and shock proof to 3 I believe. Set me back under $300 with a 4 gig card and a bag. RRP was $499.

Nah mate, i got it from Bing lee as they were clearing some stock out for a new model that should now be in stores.

Those photo's are taken on full auto mode; I havent had a chance to play with it much but it seems to have plenty of features to fiddle with.

I have an olympus waterproof camera...its great but i got it fairly cheap as it was being superseeded!!

I dont think they are making the DMC-FT2's anymore, but thats what I have. The lumix is an amazing point and shoot camera, and whatever is out now to replace it ( I think just a FT3 or something) should be just as good ( hopefully). Some shots from mine

also the banjo shark shot is underwater, and the shot of the bream was in very dirty water, although the shot doesnt show it. Theyre good cameras

nice looking camera with lots of other bits n pieces. has an onboard altimeter, barometer and GPS that it gets data from and attaches to pics. havent used it yet, but by all specs its a ball tearer.

Really appreciate the help guys. Some greats pics there (love the cicada). There seems to be plenty of FT2s going about online. Ill also definitely checkout the FT3 but for the online price the FT2 seems the go

I'm also interested in these camera's but one of my problems is - most of the dry land, macro shots I see with small, point and shoot, water proof camera's, appear to be out of focus.

The clarity of the images from these cameras is why I've resisted getting one.

I agonized over whether to keep my mouth shut but I really need a small point and shoot thats water proof and takes clear images - Not hanging sh1t just being honest

(My shots look like a bowel movement to blokes with slr's but their shots look like sh1t to me because it takes too long to set up their cameras for candid shots - Emotion manufactured a minute later doesnt do it for me

I shoot photo's like a wild west gunslinger - I need a small point and shoot that I can whip out the second I see someone flinch When I dont have access to the quick draw facility, I just let opportunities pass me by because I know the moment will be gone by the time I get my camera out

My history with waterproof, point and shoot camera's under the $500 mark maybe incredibly biased though. Most of the shots I've seen, come from a bloke who desperately needed glasses and didnt understand that you shouldn't move the camera after you had achieved "focus lock"

I buy my camera's by contacting someone who takes shots I admire and asking what they use.

Has anyone got some crystal images out of a slim, water proof, point and shoot?

I guess what you have to keep in mind Yellowdoor, that in situations where you do need a wild wild west gun slinging shot, you probably wont have the luxury of getting your object to be sitting still enough for a focused shot ( although this is general knowledge). If the object is still, then of course you would want the best camera to take the best possible shot, but unfortunately these opportunities are not always going to be there.

Take the above siglett shot for examplem or the banjo, both of those were moving ( especially the cicada, it was very windy that day). They may not be perfectly focused ( although i reckon theyre pretty good) but considering the movement, they are clear shots. How much clearer are you expecting from a point and shoot? Especially with macros. I guess it does depend on whats going on in your mind and what you deem as clear or so fuzzy you may as well rub dirt in your eyes, but from a general perspective I reckon your going to be hardpressed to find a point and shoot that has all the abilities and features as a lumix.

I have had two of the Olympus waterproof / shock proof and they lasted pretty well with a lot of abuse but the quality was just OK. Most of the pics on my blog are taken with the Olympus (Tough I think it was...) The quality of the video was pretty ordinary but it really took a hammering (white water packrafting etc). From what I have seen the Lumix is hard to beat for that style of camera.

No worries, for a second there I thought you were expecting the following quality from a point and shoot, haha

It also records in HD which is a bonus...
