Surface Fishing for Bream

Hey guys

After the Walpole round, I'm very keen to do some surface fishing for bream... not because of the outstanding success of others on the flats, but because two of my bream on day two hit the lure when it was spinning wildly on the surface as they do when the line gets caught around the front hook.
I jiggled the lure in the water to try and free the hook (after a pinpoint cast under a tree), and both times the bream rose to the surface and nailed the lure as it wallowed there. Truly an awesome sight and better than using any deeper diving lure IMO!!

Do any of you WA boys know where I can get poppers / fizzers under 35mm? I'm hoping to find some Heddon teeny torps or maybe some small poppers. Warren are you going to stock anything like this?

thanks guys

Chris

Chris, that would be an interesting exercise for sure. I went out with Geoff Paulic and on one of his casts the wind blew his line across some small branches with the result that his line was held up in a snag and the lure just dangling on top of the water.

He jigged the line a little bit to try and get it free with the unintended result of "tea bagging" his hardbody on the surface. We were amazed to see it get smashed twice!!

Chris,

have a look in this thread
http://www.breammaster.com/forum/sho...=&threadid=668
where clever Dave W suggests making your own poppers from foam earplugs. I've also seen a method of punching them out of a thong which would give a heavier popper that would cast further.

poppers & fizzers

Hi Guys

Bushy descibes how to make fizzers in his Bream Bible. All you have to do is get some dowling and screw in loops and you can get the the little propeller blades from tackle shops that specialize in Fly tackle

The foam ear plugs idea sounds like a ripper, I heated up a needle and made the hole (warning a very toxic smell emanates whilst doing this so be careful). I was able to get some in a lot of different colours.

I can't wait to try them out

I'm a huuuuge fan of the River2Sea Buggi-Pop 35, I'm sure you've seen the post on 'Killer Poppers', it probably doesn't describe their effectiveness well enough.

There isn't much info on them on the net - the River2Sea site is under construction.

I don't know if you can get them over west, but if you're having difficulties P.M. me and I'll give you the details of where I get them - they may send them over.

They've got Daichi trebles - just don't put them anywhere near anything - the little buggers pin like crazy

I've just ordered a bunch of propellers for surface fizzers, so i can make my own! I got them from a site called Stamina, in the USA but has a huge range of hardware for lure making.
I ordered gold, silver, chartruese, red and white. So when i'm done i'll let you all know which is most effective!!!
