Has anyone seen the buggy pops for sale over in WA? Also would like to try out a cricket surface lure because some windy days I see many crickets skipping across the water

Hi Everyone
The ear popper is very easy to make but lacks the weight excellent as a fly, i have a PDf for thoes who want a copy. You can have a go with Balsa get a hole cutter and cut the desired length and width. Add some rubber legs for stability andpaint. But for easy bug that dont pop or make noise daves little bug lool like the money. imiations of cicada's or a frog would be excellent Cheers Stuie Last edited by Stuie_02; 06-02-2003 at 09:57 PM. |

Jim,
I think the water colour would be less important than the situation. Poppers would likely be best fished in Summer when insects such as Cicadas are likely to fall into the water. Areas with overhanging trees, etc along the banks would be the best spots.

I used the buggi pop on bass and redfin the other day very successfully. another thing I like about them is that some colours are semi clear, so that the sun shines through them from above possibly making them more appealing! And yep the hooks are some of the sharpest I've encountered

I'm sure a few of you have seen this image in another thread, but as it's relevant, here's another "buggi pop bream".
![]() I agree the hooks on Buggi pops are 'sticky' sharp, however they are also quite 'fragile' and can easily bend, even break, if you're forced to put some muscle on a good fish in tight country. |

Ive seen little poppers made out of thongs too. you just cut out a bit of thong and put a screw in eye in one end then stick it in a cordless drill to sand it to shape. Then you take out the screw eye and cut a slot in to put a wire frame in with a treble at one end and a towing eye at the other. You can get them in lotsa of different colours.
