Larry: I've used the middle rig in your first photo once before, but the Jewies were pretty switched on that day...the hook set was solid!

Yeah I take a couple of rods so I'll give it a run on one and try something else on the other

Gave the stingers their first run tonight - not the size I was after - but it did answer a few questions

Larry,
we use a single snell rig like this, originally with a circle hook, have changed to using a penetrator style hook as we found a more successful hook up rate. Attachment 68914 Penetrator Hook Attachment 68915 have them pre-rigged and ready to go in various lbs of line. 1 hook thru the top & 1 near the tail underside. Easier to remove a single than a treble.

If I'm interpreting the bight marks correctly..... - I'm noticing the little Jewies that dont inhale - have a tendency to approach from underneath and chomp on the arse of the mullet. Might give the underside a go. |

Has anyone noticed fewer runs when a stinger is used in the bait.
My last 3 sessions have been - 1 run 1 fish - 1 run no fish - and last night was no runs no fish. I know there are heaps of factors that influence whether a Jewie eats your bait on any given night. And I am taking them into consideration aswell. But for the purposes of this post - I'm isolating the stinger rig and wondering if it can put the fish off. I'll be doing my own tests* but I'd like to hear if anyone has noticed that a single hook in the back gets more interest than the one with the stinger. (my test will be an 20lb flouro carbon leader and a single hook versus - 30lb mono 2 hook rig. I'm not overly concerned about bust offs - I just want to find out if it makes a difference) When fishing live crabs for bream - I know little things can increase hook ups. I'm wondering if its the same for Jewies |

Persist and you will find a method** dam ipads. Have you been having most hits on the rear of the baits? Could be the cold weather making there feeding less aggressive. Try a mustard hoodlum 3/0 tied on with Dacron for the stinger!
