Yeah I figured thats what you meant

The ones I've been missing hook ups on have all been leaving scuff marks around the tail or ripping the mullet clean off -

The takes from the ones I miss can be very slow and smooth. Like they're just gliding up to the bait and their momentum loads the rod.

First you see the rod tip jiggling as the mullet gets nervous. Then the rod would slowly bend over into a solid curve and just hang there for a second before all hell broke loose - or the fish spat it.
(I was fishing in gear with stiff drags to start out with)

The dacron sounds like its worth a shot - I just need more rods to try out all the theories at once

I'll give the flouro carbon a try and if that doesnt work - dacron will be next
