lure organising and storage

Gday guys,

One thing that I find difficult, frustrating and challenging is storing and organising lures and plastics.

How does everyone keep there lures organised and sorted? what sort of storage compartment / tackle boxs do people use, and how do they keep things organised, yet easy to transport and put into your boat etc.

I stay with 4 or 5 types of plastics and one box of hards. Keep plastics in thier bags and store them in one of the wallets you can buy and the hards in any kind of clear tackle box. The old shimano lure boxes were great but they are rare to find now.

All my fishing gear will easily fit into a small backpack. No sense in taking piles and piles of stuff that doesnt get used.

Small plastic containers with dividers for hard bodies, a zip up wallet type device for plastics which also houses a small plastic container for jigheads and a couple of spools of leader.

Along with the tools, lip grips, brag mat etc they slide into a small-medium packpack. It doesn't weigh much and I find myself getting LESS of a sore back with it on. I guess it balances me out or something? :P

I haven't used my tackle box in ages as I also pack my hooks, sinkers, swivels etc in the same manner. Different containers for different types of fishing. Ensures I only take what I'll need. Sometimes I'll take the other containers in the car too, just in case.

i have soft plastics bag with 10 cases for my plastics, and underneath that i've got my tackle box with, jigheads, rigged plastics, some harbodies, some hooks and swivels, and i've got a hardbody tackle box that also fits in, just need to zip it up chuck it in my backpack with pliers, bragmat(take it off my brother), lipgrips, scissors and good to go

My mate and i use black magic tackle boxes for our plastics. I cant find a link for them but they have only 5 elongated compartments that fit your plastics packets perfectly. Pretty much we just divide each compartment into types of plastics (minnows, grubs and worms etc...)

They are worth a look for sure, and for hardbodies the little plano boxes are awesome as well.

Having gone thru a number of different storage options I have gone back to the following:

3 large tackle boxes, 1 each for:

a. hard bodies (yet to find a perfect solution for these)
b. soft plastics (not Gulp)
c. jigheads - someone had a great idea on here for inserting little foam cut outs into each section into which you can stick the hooks. Have done this and it does keep them all tidy

I also have a waterproof Plano box that I stick Gulps, or any other plastic with juice. I have found that using the wallets for these is near on useless as it always leaks out somehow no matter how well you seal them up

This is probably too much for a shore based fisho but works well for the boat and everything is easy to hand.

I've got the Shimano lure boxes with the foam that you can pin trebles into stops lures ending up a tangled mess, they're discontinued unfortunately

Sps I keep in a Berkley Sp bag with lots of snaplock plastic bags on a binder, which is OK apart from if the snaplock opens soaking everything in smelly stuff

i dunno about you but i certainly like visualizing what is being described and it also puts some ideas and thought in your head.

So far in my bream collection ive got one small tackle box full of lures.
But hopefully ill get a job soon in these holidays and that collection will turn into 12 boxes

As for my soft plastic collection i keep them in a cooler bag. I keep my soft plastics organized with snap lock bags containing organized lures. For example, One bag has 3 inch minnows, another has grubs, etc.

i had the same promblem with finding a box for hard bodies so they wont tangle. i looked everywhere for the shimano ones that Mark has, no luck.
but i found info on an i dea that works a treat.
get a plano 'flipsider' box (there are 3 sizes) these are designed for spinnerbaits and lipless crankbaits i think.
anyway, cut 3 slots in the comartments to hang the trebles from.
a dremil is the quickest way but a hacksaw would do the trick.
in a 3714 (?) (pictured) which is the same dimentions as a normal 3700 plano. you can fit 96 hardbodies in without a tangle

oh, and sp's i just use a lunch box and put all the packets in so the zip-lock bit is up.
then when you are looking for a certain pack you can go through them like a fileing cabinet.
