These are some i showed before but now painted and theres a new one im keen to test which is the gold thin one.
None of them i have finnished painting though i still gotta add a bit more detail to all of them and the green, grey and pink spoted one only needs some painted eyes and it will be done.
If you guys are sick of me putting up pics everytime i make a lure just say so.
I like to get peoples ideas on how to make them better thats all

keep it up

dagga
youre lures seem to be getting better keep trying and i reckon u will end up making very good lures.
i had a go at making some today and they didnt turn out real well, they didnt swim and the paint job was dodgy. but i think with a bit of practise and the right tools i should be able to make some decent lures.
how are you making your bibs, on the few i made today i couldt get the bibs right , they dived but had no action at all.
cheers
luke

i make them out of CD cases and i dont think it the shape that matters all to much its the angle it is to the lure and where the tow point is.

Yes, body shape does matter. It's the little eddies and vortices coming off the lip that create forces that act on the lure body and make it wiggle. Thus if the lip is too narrow for the body, you'll get a very subtle wiggle. A very wide lip gives a huge wobble. However, this is in conjunction with a rounded head/front section. Not too straight and definitely not too narrow a body. Straight surface lips are harder to get to give good action than curved bibs. Both need to be well aligned (perpendicular to lengthwise axis).

I make the lips the same width as the thickest part of the body, and then shape them down slightly to make tham just fatter than the x-section just behing the head. For curved lips, I used the exhaust tubes from an aquarium undergravel filter. Cut short, they are pretty hard and durable, and if the alignment is a little off, gentle heat will soften it slightly, enough for you to gently bend it straight and hold until it cools and sets. It's thermoplastic.

Dagga, do you have a problem with the CD case material breaking/cracking when you cut it? I always seem to get stress cracks and the little "shimmer" in the plastic than indicates it's been overstressed. That's the next reason I prefer the aquarium tubes. Being slightly softer, they take the abuse of running into rocks, etc. a little better than weakened stiff plastic, which could snap clean off. If you bend lips from tubing, gentle heat will soften it enough for it to regain it's former characteristics when held in place ad cooled.

My $0.02 worth, from a few years of making UL lures.

I use my little rotary set to sand away the shape of the bib from the CD case so it doesnt stress it.
Thanks for the advice ill take it on board.
