I wasn't knocking the asking of a question, more simply pointing out that whatever info he gets seems to have no context. Presumably the article is intended to be informative and I was wondering how you could generate an informative article from asking 200 random people for a list of 10 lures without knowing:
1. where they fish (ie which state)
2. What sort of lures they've actually used.
3. Whether they are good or indifferent at fishing for bream (ie pros, good amateurs, or once a year)
4. what sort of bream they are targeting.
5. Whether they fish from a boat or are shore-based.
6. Whether they fish rivers, ocean, around piers, structures or flats.
7. Whether they are fishing deep or shallow.
With some of that background to a person's list, an overall top 10 list could be super-informative and make for an interesting article, but without any of it, it just seems pretty lazy journalism to ask "What's your favorite lure?" of 200 random people without finding out anything more. I'd hope most fishing mags go to a little more trouble than this when writing articles about favorite lures for particular species. Just my opinion is all. Admittedly, I'm still flicking through the lists and getting ideas from people who i know fish near me, but this 'journo' won't even have that info. That;'s all i was asking of him - how is this going to become an article in a magazine people will be paying for and expecting the journos to have some expertise in the area they are writing about. Perhaps there is something he's getting here that will be informative- I was simply asking how this sort of vox pop 'survey' will become an article worth buying?.

The statastical tests involved in working out those variables and putting it into context would be huge, and probaly impossible!
I think thats the idea of the Question - to rank the lures from 1-10 so not sure whats the point of naming 5 lures; or not ranking them?
