Never really thought of it as a billfish reel, but there are some options I'm considering down south
I personally wouldn't have a problem with the high speed, in fact I prefer high speed reels as I find them far more versatile. Most people I'm sure will disagree, and say you need a 4.1:1 for billfish and jigging but I like being able to take up a lot of line without much effort, and I never use the reel as a winch to a avoid stressing the gears.

Sounds logical to me mate

I wouldn't worry bout the gears either, seeing as the pinion isn't brass like that new competing flop of a reel that I have banished from my mind

Haha never thought I'd hear that! You'll be using sunline next lol.

I look at it this way, it's a lot easier to wind slower than it is to wind faster.

High speed reels and popping/ jigging is the norm as you can pick up your slack line quickly. Not so much with jigging as you pick your line up quicker over a lower geared reel and that can result in the jig not kicking out or fluttering with the bit of slack during the retreive. Not saying it can't be done but a bit of change in your technique may be required.

I just use your Rod and reel to catch your fish

The Steez is waiting on line as mentioned above.

Went to spool the Hyper 3012 Up with 30 lb super PE and managed to fit about 60 M haha have to rethink the line to use for it. Would like a minimum of 200M Open to suggestions by peeps who have actually spooled a 3012 spool.

Is it one of those lines that break at the stated poundage though?
