Heathen -
Only kidding.

The Bonefish and the redfish. Are the two I like most.

I do like the some of the trout patterns. Some of the other patterns that I know nothing about they can keep.
There was a lightweight Ross Fly reel with a rainbow trout pattern on it that very nearly tempted me.

Hey Reaper mate,

Epic looking reels but do you mind educating us on fly reels a little. What are these like in the fly fishing world? Exist quality or are most fly reels made the same?

Pretty intense colours.

Joe, ables are the cream on top of the cake mate, actually they're the cherry on top of the cream I think those reels are like $700-1000 ea depending on paint etc (reaper correct me if im wrong on price) Everything on the reel is made in the USA in the able factory even the screws are made in the factory.

Joelozzy,
Abel reels are built to a standard and not a price. They along with Tibors and a quite a few others are top of the range when it comes to flyreels. When it comes to trout fishing you can get away with just about any flyreel but in the salt you want a smooth drag and a substantial build to make it in such a harsh environment.
Abel are the bling when it comes to flyreels and I have quite a few of them. In saying that though, I really enjoy fishing with my Tibors, there is nothing like the sound of a Snapper ripping backing off of them and the drag has such a cool sound to it.
The best of the best in saltwater flyreels would have to be IMHO the Makos made by Jack Charlton. Now if I had a few thousand to spare that's where my cash would be going.
I hope that lets you know a little bit about where us crazy flyfisho's spend our money.
Cheers Dazz

There are more manufacturers of fly reels than spin reels. Abels sit up way towards the top of the tree - In spinning reel terms they are like the probably like Van Staal - Top grade materials - built for robustness (rather than lightweight) and a traditional (and proven) design.

Abel I think were the first (or at least among the first) to go custom anodising of their reels. They're not like Daiwa and Shimano with a range of reels from low dollar to high. Abel just make top end gear.

There are other reel makers who use lighter materials, more cut aways, carbon fibre and other high tech drag materials.
Both Daiwa and Shimano (I think Shimano might sell them under the Loomis brand now though) make fly reels. Penn, Pfleuger and Okuma even Alvey(and Abu used to but I'm not sure any more) all make fly reels as well but they aren't held in particularly high regard by the flyfishers - they're best would be considered as say Sol's or Stradic's - mid level reels, good but not sensational.
If you are looking for something Exist/Stella level you look at Abel/Sage/Mako/Tibor to name a few. I've missed a few.

I always wonder why fly reels cost so much. There's not a lot to a fly reel when you compare it to a spin reel or baitcaster.

Wow Cheers for that guys. Definitely helps me appreciate them alot more.

I've always been keen to try some fly fishing. Will definitely give it a crack one day.

Yeah I've always wondered about the mechanics of a fly fishing reel. Never looked into it but always tried to figure out the mechanics of them. I was always under the impression the fisherman actually created the drag with his hand

Cheers guys much appreciated.

Bloddy nice tom got a nice tackle hit there I bet. See you went for the 6.3:1 what are your impressions of it I only have one baitcater so I've got nothing to compare it too.
I was able to cast an atomic crank off my steez with a short 20lb rod (that wasn't loading up on the small lure) and 15lb braid a good distance (in the 15-20m range)
