I would never have spent this much but the reel was cheap enough to justify it, but only just. The cost all up probably set me back the price of a new one but no other reel is exactly like mine and that makes me feel special

If I was going to do it again I'd probably take the reel apart myself and only send in the parts that needed painting. I'd probably go with someone off here who knows how to do it rather than a company too.

The paint job is pretty much flawless, couldn't be happier with that.
Unfortunately I think something happened in the re-build/reassembly because now when I put the handle on there is a lot of back-play (anti-reverse is fine) and when winding there is a thumping vibration, like the gears aren't meshing properly. My theory is that the sideplate which keeps the gears tight doesn't snug down as tight as it used to because of the new layer of paint and coating. Hopefully a bit of sanding will fix it.
***EDIT***
Took her apart and placed some thin washers underneath the bearings on the drive shaft and problem solved. A little bit of a rough job but the reel is still smooth as and maybe only a little bit noiser.
