Anyone catch bream on PX45 in rivers around Melbourne?
The concept of these prawny looking surface lure are great, but have anyone got good results on them in Melbourne rivers such as the Yarra, Maribyrnong, Patterson, Werribee etc?

We used to fish them a bit when they first came out. Our biggest locally went 39 (think we have 2 @ 39 on them). We got the better fish right at dawn when it was still a bit dark

ive tried them within melbourne with not much luck, even in very shallow water ( less than 2 feet deep) I havent had much success as I have had on other lures.
Saying that they look awesome and should catch fish if the fish are feeding near the surface |

I've used them a few times and caught fish on them but not overly productive IMO. Try low light and windless conditions and give em plenty of pauses to improve hookup.

2 second Walk, pop and pause... That said, I've only tried it twice and managed one. There are more productive ways to get some fish, but always handy to have and try when all else fails

And cut the feelers down to hang about 1cm below the trebles, otherwise you'll get a lot of takes where the bream just grab the feelers...

I got a few but only 3 legals. 2 were just legal and 1 was 34 cm. It was a slow start for me but it got better as I started to figure out the terrain a little. Prior to this trip I had only been inside one other time and that was to try out the Hobie as I had just bought it then. The Patto isn't exactly my favourite river, in fact, far from it because the going there can be so tough. I was forced to go there because it was blowing a gale at Mornignton.

Thought about this thread tonight when fish were smacking the Presso Minnow off the surface twitching it like an injured fish trying to swim right.
Two rats, dropped one, and then busted off on a nearby snag by a high-30's fish, worst thing was, I could see the bloody thing! It did swim away from the snag just after pinging it so all's good there. During one retrieve I counted 21 boils behind the PX, but all failed to hook up Atleast a boil every cast. Made for a good 15 minutes Shocking phone pic sorry |

true. when i walk them at a steady pace they seem to smash them and hook up first hit. but when i give it pauses i get a lot of boils behind it and less hook ups. it just depends on how the fish are feeding.
